I don’t see how Pruit could do worse than Butch

Bert, Gus, and Butch were all hired the same year. At the time I thought Bert would do the best with Butch following since they both had HC experience, etc.

Mid-way through this season it looked like all 3 were lining up at the chopping block to get chopped. Ends up only 2 heads rolled and Gus maneuvered a sweet contract extension with a very lucrative pay raise and didn't bring home any more hardware than the other two that got shite canned. You just never know what'll happen in the coaching profession.

They can't afford to fire Pruitt now, no matter what.

I imagine it is trying to have to worry about money all the time. I am glad VOLS are very wealthy.

UT should not have hired him (or Dooley). A P5 HC job is too much for them. Butch is a MAC or FCS level coach at best.

By my calculations, UT is spending $11.8 million a year for the next five years to have Pruitt as their coach, plus support staff.

Is he worth it?

Hiring Jeremy Pruitt is not worth $11.8 million...but firing butch is.

How do you know how good his staff will be with him as a first year hc? Everyone laughed when Smart hired Cheney as his OC. Would you say that was a bad hire?

Well, he's mostly poaching from Bama and UGA which both have good coaches so it's looking good so far.

I thought it was a bad hire at the time. Jim called some really good games this year and I will be the first to admit that it looks like he has figured out not to abandon the run and throw 40 straight times.

That's what was maddening about Chaney, he would call such a good game and then would go off the rails. Looks like he's fixed that.

Haven't seen anything that indicates that they *can*... simply that they want to. LINK

Unlikely that they get out of all $5.5M... will be interesting to see how that plus the Schiano situation sorts itself out... either way... UT probably paying upwards of $2M in legal fees to then settle both out of court for potentially undisclosed amounts.

Think the lol was regarding the $7M claim of current compensation... not that he made that much. Pretty sure every team in the conference would have paid 20M/year to get him 5 years ago at this point... he'll do what "he" wants... Miss Terry don't wanna leave.

He took Sherrer from UGA, which might maybe a little effect OLB recruiting this class because he was their primary recruiter but Smart and Tucker still run the defense and are still here . Am I missing someone else?

Well... if you actually read what's out there... his actual salary this year is about 7.125M... He got a 4M signing bonus this year as part of the extension. The actual deal was for 65M over 8 years... I believe that includes the signing bonus (can't find it explicitly stated), which if so will mean average over the 8 years is 7.6M... Even if you include the bonus you're at 8.125...

Ultimately, the original 7M figure was more accurate than the 11M that was thrown out.
