True.
Interesting how its gotten a lot closer to 50/50 in the 21st century after so much dominance.

It's still not even close to 50/50.

quote:THIS is the primary weakness of Ohio State's claim to stature. The Big Ten simply has not produced the same high quality of competition for Ohio State that the SEC West and Florida have for LSU. Three of LSU's YEARLY in-conference opponents have WON national championships in this century. None of Ohio States yearly in-conference opponents have won national championships in this century. This is a huge difference when you consider quality of schedules between the two schools. So Ohio State has a few more victories over lesser opponents. Big deal.
Your conference also has 0 championships besides yours.

What isn’t hard to believe is if Oklahoma State beats Iowa State in 2011, both LSU and Alabama would have 4 National Championships this millennium.
Still shoulda played Okie St. They were undefeated in the reg season, won the conference and had as many top 25 wins as Bama if I remember. You shouldnt get rewarded a ‘bye week’ by losing then get a shot at the trophy. Nicky boo just cried to the media relentlessly to get his candy that year.....

One program in CFB has had 23 winning seasons and 23 bowl appearances in the last 25 years, including 20 in a row.
This program is 12th nationally all-time in number of NCAA victories (and was 12th BEFORE 2000), and is 8th nationally in bowl appearances.

tbf if OSU played in the SEC they'd have 3 losses minimum 90% of their seasons.

Name another program that has multiple undefeated seasons, an NC, and multiple NC appearances besides Auburn. I'll hang up and listen.

Ohio State in 2002 (14-0) National Champions and 2012 (12-0) on probation: 4 NCG appearances with 2 titles.

The clear top five:
Alabama
Ohio State
LSU
Oklahoma
Clemson
Miami was solid from 2000-2003
USC from 2002-2008 were their best years
Florida State in 2000 and 2013-15 were their best
Florida in 2006, 2008-09 their best
Auburn’s success is broken up into 2004, 2010, 2013
Texas won 10+ games from 2001-2009
All the programs above have won national titles in the 21st century. It’s hard to put a ranking on some because of certain periods of mediocrity.
Clemson breaks the top five as they started their push to national recognition in 2009 and slowly made their way to what they are now.
We all know Alabama is the clear number one and compares to now, 2000-2007 was a blur.
Oklahoma is easily top five. Even though just the one national title; they only managed under 10 wins in a season in 2005 and 2009. Numerous conference titles, 3 other NC appearances, 4 CFP appearances, won all four BCS games.
I have Ohio State above LSU by the thinnest of margins; mainly for the overall consistency. 2000, 2001, and 2011 were their bad years. But those two really can be interchangeable as it is no disrespect toward LSU.
Program rankings without a national title since 2000:
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Wisconsin
4. Virginia Tech
5. Notre Dame
6. Penn State
7. Stanford
8. TCU
9. Utah
10. Michigan State
11. Oklahoma State
12. Washington
13. Boise State
14. Central Florida
15. Iowa

For the sake of keeping everything equal, I stick with AP & UPI/Coaches poll titles and playoff titles.
So, using Poll Era:
Alabama - 12
Notre Dame - 8
Oklahoma - 7
USC - 7 (including 2004)
Ohio State - 6
Miami & Nebraska - 5
Texas, LSU & Minnesota - 4
Other SEC Teams:
Florida - 3
Auburn, Tennessee - 2
Georgia, Texas A&M - 1
That's it. Better to stick with those, IMHO.

LSU has lost 3 games or more in twelve of those twenty seasons. Ohio State has lost three or more in five of those twenty seasons.
Not saying Ohio State isn't a top 5 program but we don't play in the same conference. We remember Ohio State getting embarrased in back to back Championship games by two different SEC Teams.
We saw Ohio State struggle the one year they had subpar coaching. You can argue LSU was under coached pretty much the entire Miles era and still won a NC, played for another and won 3 SEC Championships. LSU has won 5 SEC Championships and played for another this century.
SEC Championships are a lot harder to come bye than Big X Championships. Not even close. Even some National Championship teams haven't been able to win The Mighty SEC. Big X can barely score in the Playoffs.
