I agree, four is too many. It should probably be three (38, 50, and 51), although two (38 and 51) would also be acceptable. 1940 is a bad claim by the university.

Based on what? Spurrier coached 23 years in the SEC (12 at Florida).
Kirby Smart has coached 10 years in the SEC.

Kirby has 2 fewer SEC titles and one more National Championship.
I would give up two SEC Championships for another National Championship.

I get that Spurrier introduced offensive philosophies, but so did numerous other coaches over the years. I also get that Spurrier coached at South Carolina, but a lot of other coaches coached at lesser schools and did not win at those schools....but that does not make them better coaches. You could also argue that Spurrier had the advantage of coaching as a head coach several years before he went to Florida, so he had an advantage there.

Was Spurrier a great coach? Absolutely, but I'm not sure one way or the other that he was better or worse than Smart.

Just outside the top ten, I would include Allyn McKeen who was 65-19-3 (77%) at State from 1939-1948. One SEC title and one undefeated season as well.

Formula you or whoever used to make this aside. Urban Meyer is a top ten coach amongst sec coaches.
