the legendary great, LARRY MUNSON!!
He called UGA football games from 1966-2008. No one like him before and no one like him since. He is missed!

Everyone has a connection to their own announcer.
UT fans will always say John Ward was the greatest.
Bama may say it's Eli or Forney.
Old LSU fans may say it's John Ferguson or Auburn might mention Fyffe.
I hope UF fans wouldn't throw in that guy that just retired that made his living stealing from Dick Enberg.
But here's the deal. I don't think any base ever loved their announcer the way we loved Larry.
Any UGA fan that was hardcore in the eighties until his retirement can literally tell you about five to ten of his calls and give them almost word for word.
It is impossible to think about Belue to Scott, Herschel's debut, Butler's 60 yarder to beat second ranked Clemson, Greene to Haynes at Tennessee, Greene to Johnson at Auburn for the East and not think of Larry's calls. And I'm still leaving a few more out that were great. Never seen another fan base that could quote their guy word for word as much or as often.

Not a Georgia fan but I am old enough to remember some of his great calls.
He is a TRUE Legend

Munson was good but my vote is the legendary Cawood ledford
That picture of him above was his last year, I believe. I remember as a kid living in NE Pennsylvania l would turn on my small transistor radio just to listen to Cawood. That was a ritual for me every fall and winter for most of his broadcasting life, AND I DIDN'T even like KY.... He was just that good. So glad he didn't go to the Chicago Bulls during the MJ years.

"My God a Freshman!"
"He's running all over people! Oh you, Herschel Walker!"
"We just stomped on their face with a Hobnail boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!"
"Run Lindsay! Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott!"
"He kicked the whatchamacallit out of it!"
“I know I’m asking a lot, you guys, but hunker it down one more time!”
"Look at the sugar falling out of the sky!"
"The girders are bending now. Look at the score!"
“Oh my God! Oh my God! The stadium is worse than bonkers! Eleven seconds! I can’t believe what he did! This is ungodly!”

For us it was Bob Fulton but Larry was a true treasure as well and when I could pick up his broadcast after our games, it was always enjoyable to listen to him.

Ledford is generally considered among the finest play-by-play commentators in the history of American sports broadcasting and is highly esteemed by his peers.[6] In the 2021 SEC Storied film "More Than a Voice" an SEC broadcaster quoted the University of Tennessee's longtime play-by-play announcer John Ward who felt that Ledford was the greatest play-by-play announcer in the history of broadcasting. The broadcaster spoke for his colleagues in saying that if one were forced to choose just one broadcaster to call a game, Ledford was the choice.

To each his own, but he was a little too superfan, cringey homer for my taste.

Lindsey Nelson was born in 1919...so you're a few years too late.

I love me some Larry.
My only problem was when I was actually listening live to his call, and not simultaneously watching the game, I had no idea what the frick was happening.

Bennett, a great athlete leaps over the top and breaks our hearts...
One of my favorites.
But seriously, Munson is a legend. Total Homer, and could only exist in his own time.
