I bet a lot of money on this one in college. I still remember camera panning to Don Shula and him being angry as hell when Oklahoma faked a FG.

ETA

Turns out it was a punt

Which one is worse?

I’ll take your mentioning of 2003 as a good omen. Maybe we can finally win in the Swamp next week

I remember that game well. As a scout teamer, I played Teddy Lehman’s role all week. He was a good linebacker.

The fake punt was indeed the decisive play.

That Alabama team had more talent than you give it credit for. Britt, Croyle, Harper, Odom, Ryans, Smiley, Peprah, Mathis, Shaud Williams.

Yea, good young defenders who became stars over the next few years (Ryans, Peprah, Harper) and a few very good OL (Smiley and Mathis, Britt was young but not bad at this point). Brodie and Shaud were solid college players.

Definitely not a 4-9 roster. However, as you know, the depth was rough with the probation and injuries were a nightmare - not to mention 3 swing games that went to OT or the last possession that were all lost (NIU, Arky, Tennessee).

Had no shot in 3 games, really (@ UGA, LSU, @ Ole Miss).

Fans that have to resort to other teams beating one of their perceived rivals ( ) after their's literally just got their arse kicked again by that team, are a special level of sad.

Bad luck in that Sugar Bowl, Jason White played 3 quarters of that game with a broken bone in his hand, they were still one play from inside the five of tying that game in the end.

As embarrassing as it was for A&M that day, that was the worst Aggie team in decades, and Stoops was butthurt that Fran ran it up on Baylor (and that their season was ruined at Kyle the year prior).

What you're saying about that 77-point win is simply not true. Stoops did everything in his power to end the onslaught in the second half, including playing kids from OU's scout team. But a coach can't tell his players to simply fall down when the ball is handed off to them (although that actually happened in the second half). Stoops could have put me in at q-back and the Aggies would still have been unable to get a stop.

I'll never forget that A&M kid who came in and tackled the RB who was falling up the middle and jumped around dancing like he'd just won the game down by 77 points... Slocum took him out and yelled at him.

One of the first videos on YT when you search for that game.

Shaud Williams was a transfer from Texas Tech...west Texas kid. I think he played for Jeff Lebby's dad in HS.

OU played against him twice when he played for Tech... Then twice when he played for Bama.

He was a fireplug of a guy who was damn hard to catch... and hard to tackle him if you could catch him.

He's the Head Strength coach for Lebby at Mississippi State, now. Was an assistant strength coach at Oregon for a while before that.
