Why are y’alls thoughts on Max Johnson?

Was he projected to be third string at LSU And that is why he bolted

Or do y’all think he was a pretty solid qb and possibly needs to further develop?

The kid has talent. Biggest issue for him is holding the ball way too long and letting the pocket collapse on him. Could be coached up I believe.

He’s outstanding, Jimbo needs to start him every game next year.

saw this in our spring game. weigman was clearly out best QB, but not sure Jimbo will trust a true fish. it feels like he made promises to the Johnson family.

I watched some A few games of Max and felt the same way. He has talent, but he can be indecisive. I agree 100 percent

He’s at his best when he rolls out to his right.

Coached up and roll to the left is key.
He is a gamer and tons of moxie.
Saying all that good luck

He wasn’t projected 3rd string. He left because the guy he came to play for was fired, and his brother chose A&M.
He was probably going to end up a backup, but it would have been a competition.
His footwork just looked awful all year, our passblocking was pretty bad, and he got into the habit of throwing off his back foot. His accuracy seemed worsen as the season went on and you could sense the frustration build as the drama with coach o being on the hot seat ramped up. I think he is serviceable enough to not blow it in a championship caliber team. But it’s hard to say how he looks on an 8-4 team. Lol

Do you have a good OL this year? Will be crucial to his success.

If Jimbo can turn him into a pure game manager he maybe successful. He’s very jittery in the pocket and holds the ball way too long. Also likes to throw off his back foot or will sometimes even jump when he passes.

I don’t see him starting for A&M but if there’s an injury he could be serviceable if Jimbo can get him to settle down.

Still a project. Needs to work on his footwork. Unfortunately, the staff LSU has now may have been perfect to develop him for the next level.

He probably just wanted a fresh start. When he left, the staff wasn't filled out and there was no depth chart projection. Maybe he saw himself falling behind, I don't know.

At this point, I do think he'd be 3rd.

He can certainly be serviceable.

I don't think many LSU fans have thoughts on max johnson right now, but more thoughts on LSU baseball and what CBK is building within the football program.

But if you're asking "what" are y'alls thoughts on max johnson... then most will say he's a serviceable QB and LSU fans probably wish him the best of luck.

Smart kid and tough…I question his arm strength. I wasn’t upset to see him leave.

His arm strength isn't great, but if they can develop him and need him to play, he'll definitely be better than Calzada.

Good, young qb. Not a world beater but you could 100% do worse.

Lacks a big arm, is mobile but certainly not elite. Jittery in the pocket but that may have been early oline play and scheme last year.

If he’s your starting qb, he’s not a weakness that requires an immediate upgrade, but you are absolutely looking for an upgrade.

He wasn’t projected/guaranteed to be the starter and had zero relationship with the new staff. Nussmeir is also more talented and if the strides/developments we are hearing are true about him, Johnson could have been 3rd string.

Solid qb that needs to develop and will. He’s only a junior with less than 20 games under his belt.

He has a helluva behind the back no look throw. Let’s hope you have an offensive line.

Jimbo has always liked a pure pocket passer for his offense.
Max is not really that. As others mentioned, his progressions are usually a step behind, but he can wildly extend a play sometimes.

Brennan would have been a better fit for Jimbo offense, and Max for Kelly.
I think Nuss ends up being Kelly's guy come fall, based on spring game.
He has some of those escapability traits that Max had, but moves more fluid & plays smarter imo.

It's tough to be too hard on the kid when our OL was bad in pass pro and our #1 WR was out. However, I don't think he helped his OL out very much with his pocket presence and it was a combination of both that led to our Offense sputtering at times.

Kid had balls of steel against UF in 2020 and Aggie in 2021. I just don't think he's that good of an arm talent. That said best of luck to him unless he's going against us.

at times looked above average, at times looked average.

case in point: your game, under pressure most of the night and looked average\below average (i know the line sucked and your d-line was legit but he's a statue)....but, in that same game, dropped a dime when needed.

he won't lose you most games, and he may win you a game or 2, but he'll manage whats there. better have great d and running game.
