i admit i don't know the formulas that each individual poll includes, but evidently losses aren't weighted near high enough. a loss should hurt !

I think most of us just want to know how Okie State is ranked.

Yea, I think they got the top 10ish right, but after that they clearly just mailed it in and didn't know much about those teams. Really didnt like seeing a 2 loss ND over an undefeated Minnesota, 3 days after ND BARELY beat VT. Who's even on this committee? They probably do .1% of the research a computer can do. BCS had it right all along.

If LSU or Bama beat a top 15 team by 30 points, the fans on this board would be saying they were the best team in the country bar none. Maybe it means OSU is really damn good. Maybe as you said, it means Wisky isn't as good as anticipated.

In some ways, playing closer games makes both teams "seem" better. If OSU/Wisky had been a 10 point game, people may be like "Wisky kept it close against OSU" in the same way Auburn and UF are getting credit for keeping it close against LSU.

My post also took into account that Wisconsin lost to Illinois the week before playing OSU.

Eveything you just posted shows exactly why they need more teams

If you get lower ranked teams you are merely adding more teams that have little to no chance of winning a championship. The blowouts will be worse, and there will be more of them.

Add to that that a top team would have to play another tough game and it adds to the chances that an injury critical to them occurs. You might have a legit title team not win because of added injuries.

quote:

Oregon 59 FSU 20- TCU, who was left out the playoffs, blew the fricking doors off of Ole Miss in the bowl game, the team that beat Bama....

I think it is safe to say that the Ole Miss victory over Alabama was a bit of a fluke.

quote:

Clemson 37 Oklahoma 17-Ohio st, the defending champs with only one loss, clearly were better than Mich St

Then leave Michigan Stat out.

quote:

Clemson 31 Ohio St. 0-Maybe Penn state, the actual big 10 champs who beat OSU, should have had an opportunity
You mean the team that got beat 49-10 by Michigan and 42-39 by Pitt?

quote:

Clemson 30 ND 3-Ohio State would have blown the doors off ND as well
Instead of adding ohio State, why not do the right thing and leave ND out?

I mean, your arguments are not good for adding teams. your arguments are better for getting the right teams in there. It does not add value to put weak teams in the playoffs. It waters it down.

How many times have a team been left out of the playoffs that had a great chance at winning the playoffs? Rarely if ever. Yet people want to add 4 additional teams to the playoffs?

I freely admit, that would be one hell of a playoff.

Of course, it doesn't settle the "played an extra game in the conference championship game" issue - but it would be a pretty amazing playoff.

Hell the #6 team in the country lost to South Carolina at home.

CFB is the best exactly for games like that

Your scenario is impossible.

We'll say, for the sake of argument, that LSU makes the SECCG...Auburn lose to a 2-loss Georgia team in a rematch.

How does Auburn get a re-match if LSU makes it to the SECCG?

The committee was set up to reward the blue blood programs and to keep them relevant no matter what their record is!

Unfortunately college football has become such big money the NCAA has decided they must manage the system for the betterment of college football. And it will never go back to computers decided who gets in and who doesn’t, and they don’t want to leave it up to sports writers to get it right for the NCAA.

A perfect example:

Two teams from the same Conference....

*Oklahoma is 7-1
*Baylor is 8-0

*Oklahoma has defeated zero teams in the Top 25
*Baylor has defeated TWO teams in the Top 25

*Oklahoma LOST at #16 Kansas State by 7 points
*Baylor WON at #16 Kansas State by 19 points

What basis would one have to rank Oklahoma ahead of Baylor at this point in the season? But of course, the Committee did just that, ranking 7-1 Oklahoma at #9 and undefeated Baylor at #12.

This is a perfect example of "Brand" trumping actual facts and results on the field. It's also the same reason Ohio State came in at #1 ahead of LSU who clearly has the better resume.

Last night, and they will not state it publicly, was a Poll.

Nah, the 2015 win was a bit of a fluke as it took 5 turnovers from Alabama and a crazy tipped pass that turned into a 60yd td play for Ole Miss.

In 2014 it was just a really close game where OM intercepted a late pass in the endzone to prevent Alabama from scoring to tie and take the lead with the extra point. Even one of Alabama's tds came from a fumble recovery. Good Bo showed up that day and threw for 251 and 3 tds.

Ole Miss ran into a buzzsaw against TCU. Also, OM was not the same team they were when they played Alabama, after losing Laquon Treadwell for the year in the Auburn game.

ETA: The OM defense was very solid that year. Through the first 8 games of the season they were giving up 10.5 pts a game. Even after giving up 35 to Aub (this game hurt a lot..think it set the tone for the rest of the year as Treadwell got hurt as he was about to cross the goal line while fumbling into the endzone and lost 35-31), 30 to Ark, and 42 to TCU they were still only giving up 16 pts a game for the full season.

The computers of the old BCS just spit out the data that was programmed in them. Which explains why Boise State was often the team to beat. Pick a subject, any subject, the eye test has always been a part of the equation since we got here.

Other than Bama getting in over Wisky in 2017 the committee's decisions have been hard to argue with.

What about tOSU getting in over Big 10 champ Penn St, who also beat tOSU, in 2016?

Maybe you have Bama fatigue.

The committee is betting on the games? I though they were supposed to ranking the teams based on playoff worthiness.

Exactly!! Penn State having 2 losses, including getting blown out by Michigan, had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Neither did Penn St beating Ohio St head to head AND being conference champs apparently....
