NIL and opt outs will make every bowl like this.

I bet your posting history shows you care a lot about bowl games when the SEC team is doing the arse kicking instead of receiving it.

Not always. I did not enjoy watching our bowl game at all last year. When you only have 39 scholarship players and a WR playing QB, it’s not a lot of fun.
I actually feel for Florida. It sucks when your QB, who started all season, doesn’t play.
All of the opt outs, players declaring for the draft, players transferring, takes away a lot for some teams.

It's funny how fans like you scream doninance if the SEC goes 9-2 in bowl games but the games don't matter if they lose.

Why would you bitch about getting to watch more college football?

Bowl games have always been meaningless, outside of 2-3 games.
Nothing has changed.
Nothing has changed.

Come on now, where's your sec sec sec pride. We're supposed to blow every other conferences teams out. We shouldn't lose to a pac whatever number it is team

I only agree now because of all the ridiculous transfer and opt out shite we have these days.. can’t even really predict how anything will go based off the season anymore.
College football was just better in the early 2000s up until all this shite.
Really? How could you say that? This season is the best South Carolina football team that beat a potential playoff team and a true hated rivalry, Clemson and get to go 8-4. This is a great season for South Carolina. I wouldn't be complaining about NIL or transfer portal.

Once upon a time they meant a lot. If you won 7 games you probably weren't going anywhere. It was a reward for a good season and the players got to say they played in the fill in the blank bowl. Like college football has always done, they find a way to screw up a good thing. Now we have the Jimmy Kimmel bowl. I miss the old bowl tie ins. SEC champ-Sugar, SWC champ-Cotton, Big8 Champ-Orange, Rose bowl was pac champ vs big champ. I also miss the regular season deciding the conference champ. I don't have a problem with conference champs getting in the playoffs, I have a problem with a 6-6 team getting lucky and winning their conference championship over an 11-1 team and getting in. The regular season is not a big deal now. I wont ever sweat 2 losses again. Maybe even 3.

I don't bet on things as truly unpredictable as bowl games, especially since the emergence of the opt out.
Besides, it is fun to laugh at Florida!
And not to laugh at LSU when losing to Texas A&M that failed to have a winning record this season. Losing to UGA without Ed Orgeron being the HC at LSU. He is undefeated against UGA.

The years UGA hasn’t been in the playoff have changed what bowls are. After UGA lost to Texas, they approached bowls differently. They were early auditions for the following year. Instead of asking players to stay, Smart basically said that if you’re even considering skipping the game, you should. He wanted hungry guys fighting for a starting job next year, not guys going to the NFL loafing.
It’s worked well bot in setting up the next year and I’m having a motivated (if inexperienced) team for the bowls that don’t matter. It’s made them matter for the players as a start to next year.

Those teams need better culture.

Bowl games were originally just money making events, with some nominal charity attached. They were not supposed to be playoffs. All these non playoff bowl games today are just extra practice and extra money. They are doing exactly what they were always designed to do. The only “stupid” bowls are those that don’t pay enough for the teams to cover their expenses and make a profit.
