The pool of decent ESPN play-by-play and "expert analysts" is extremely shallow.

Too much hyperbole, over-analysis and lack of familiarity with the teams. Guys with no personality or too much personality.

One other thing, ESPN's top tandem is not Fowler and Herbstreit. Blackledge is the best analyst with the least bias and hyperbole. I used to think Sean McDonough was too monotone but he is actually preferable to the most of the other mouthpieces.

Someone needs to cold cock Reese Davis.

It's painful to listen to the drivel.

McDonough has a great voice but good lord he gets excited over every. single. play. Sean, it was a 1st and 10 running play off tackle for 3 yards, calm down.

Here's another sobering thought. In 2005, ABC had Keith Jackson, Brent Musburger, Brad Nessler, and Mike Tirico as their play by play commentators for their four BCS bowl games. All four are light years better than Fowler who gets all of the plum CFB assignments for ESPN.

Man, I miss him saying “the grandaddy of them all” when talking about the Rose Bowl.

When we lost Verne it was the beginning of the end of excellence.

and from a reliable source, Musburger requires a six pack of bud heavy at every game he calls. How in the world did he gets relegated to ESPNU?

Much of this board loves Gus Johnson for the same reason. It’s irritating.

ESPN hasn't had any "analysts" for years. They have media personalities. That's it.

Just remember, we could always have Beth Mowins every Saturday.

I’m not sure I could handle one game. Not even one.

I liked Griese’s analysis as a color guy. When LSU was getting mugged at the start of the game by the UCF Secondary, he correctly pointed out that LSU needed to combat that by throwing vertical routes to take the top off.

Ensminger finally called the go’s and streaks, and LSU scored two long TD’s off those calls.

Later, he correctly expressed amazement that Heupel was not attacking the corners for LSU on every single play to make them pay for playing Press Man under with no Delpit to play Centerfield using 4th stringers. LSU Fans were pretty puzzled also.

But Levy is definitely a minor leaguer.

SEC and/or ESPN need to restore order and bring Gus Johnson to the SEC.

You’re right. It was originally. Edited.

Musberger picked it up from him.

The days of good commentators are long gone. Guys who honed their craft on radio are a completely different breed to the douches they trot out there today.

I like McDonough and Blackledge, but yea the rest of them are pretty bad.

I actually think the Bachelor, Cubelic, Hart crew on SECN has aged together pretty well.

Sean, Todd, and Holly are my favorite current team. I did like Todd and Holly when they were paired with Nessler before he went to CBS.
