The worst part of this is that sell it as some military tradition. What an insult to the actual service academies and real military personnel.

Why would the school allow that? It’s so bad and all it does is make them look worse?
Also what is wrong with the guys doing it? Why the hell would they think this is good.

Here’s a thought: If you aren’t interested, don’t pay attention.
(Lord knows I’m not concerned about the traditions of other schools).
You clearly are; your focus illustrates as much.
I’ve learnt over the years y’all enjoy talking about the Yell Leaders and giving each other “attaboys!” for posting about those weird Aggie traditions.

The funny part about this whole discussion is that A&M is THE largest university in the SEC. We have more students enrolled at A&M than, in some cases, two of you other universities combined. We turn down more applicants most years than most of you get applicants at all. Our admission standards are higher than most other SEC schools and our graduates make more money on average than any other SEC school. We are an AAU accredited university. One of only four SEC schools. The rest of you wouldn't qualify. In addition, we outrank almost every other SEC school in relevant metrics.
And we are the weird cult school? Maybe some of you should become weird cult schools too in order to make your school even greater than it already is. Most of you have a lot of catching up to do.

I really would like a sane A&M fan or alum actually give a reasoned defense of this embarrassing stuff. I mean, they obviously like it and appreciate it and it is meaningful to them, or else they would storm the offices and powers that be and demand the embarrassment to stop. But that's just it, they aren't embarrassed by it, like anyone else would be.
And to try the false equivalence of posting clearly gay/queer UT students (of which every school has a lot of, and A&M has a ton of just by virtue of the sheer volume of students they have), isn't the same. Those are kids doing things of their own volition on their own time and dime.
The gayness that is yell leaders is a school-sanctioned, official university activity.
