If NIL was around since say 2000, which transcendent CFB players stand above the rest in NIL potential? Even in this group of elite players there are tiers, but off the top of my head guys I think who would have been big earners ...

Reggie Bush
Tim Tebow
Vince Young
Johnny Manziel
Cam Newton

Who does the rant have?

Good list.

At the end of the day, most SEC teams will probably have 3 to 5 football players, 1 basketball player, and a few hot girls who will benefit from this.

Some of the non revenue sports may do some Utube instructional stuff (golf, tennis), but most athletes will not become millionaires off NIL.

If natural light wouldn’t have sponsored Stephen Garcia at the time I’d probably walk away from sports

Tua after his famous throw for the Championship. And Joey B's magical season would have been very profitable, I believe, as recent examples.

Depends on if it changed what happened to him in college. If he’s still stealing laptops, and still goes to JUCO, then Auburn. I don’t think he would make as much you’d think. He didn’t reach real popularity unitl his one year at Auburn. Which was his final year in college. Tebow would’ve probably made more than anyone, just because of the success early on and longevity he had. Same could be said for Manziels early success, and Reggie Bush’s longer successful career.

ETA: and this all depends on how deals will work out for players who become stars in college, vs just this money for recruiting.

Fournette and the Honey Badger were pretty well known nationally.

Tim Tebow and Reggie Bush, without a doubt, would’ve made an absolute killing.

Then, outside of those two, the typical guys in the Heisman race would be up there.

Historically, you have to think Bo Jackson would be at the top.

Denard Robinson and Matt Leinart both could have made some good coin.

No, it depends what market they are in. USC and ND players will rack up in Football.

We’ll never know, but my money would be on those two being the highest earners had this been around. I don’t think it would really be that close either to be honest.

Could NIKE just have paid Mariota a $1,000,000 and just had him do a commercial in his Oregon gear?

Pork Chop Womack. Pig Prather. Jim Bob Cooter. Brit Barefoot (kicker, of course.)

Name recognition carries the day.
