MOTHERfrickING BOOM
So it's all about ratings? You've been bought.
2.8-2.6 isn't much of a gap. What if UT has been in the top 20, as LSU and A&M? UT is down, but not out...

quote:Hate to break it to you, but outside Tenessee and Alabama, no one cares. I was born in 1966 and don't think I even saw this game on television until after the 1984 Supreme Court ruling the deregulated college football. It seems like this rivalry rarely matches up teams that are strong at the same time, and given the date that it is played on, it does not decide the conference championship the way that some season ending rivalry games tend to (the Iron Bowl is more meaningful in that context).
Whoever did the informal poll, go back and ask if they're familiar with Alabama vs Tennessee rivalry. TTSIO title is insignificant. It's the rivalry game between the two most prestigious SEC schools. I don't expect people outside the south to know the significance of the physical date, but I guarantee you they know of that particular game.

Wow. Oldest=Better? Not necessarily.
Nope those are just the Rivalires that are older where a current SEC team participates. Notice that there are a few that will no longer be played. TSIO isn't a rivalry that anyone outside of UT & UA care about.
Take for example, RRR and Bedlam series. More people will watch those games because they are better rivalries also the UT. v. A&M rivalry. It has been played much longer and even though UT has Owned A&M arse over the course of it, that rivalry is still better. TSIO and Egg Bowl no one cares about.
Out of all the more obscure rivalries DSOR is probably the most recognized.

Absolutely correct. To bad my "Boom" is not solely based on ratings.

If if ands and buts were chocolate and nuts every day would be Christmas.
Thats the point. That series has rarely been equal. ever.
The Point is Bama was in Prime time and LSU got the weak time slot. TSIO should have been a 4+ if that rivalry was important.

All of the rivalries listed above are better than TSIO. The only reason TSIO is going to stay put is that UA is a participant.

You don't think the gap would have been bigger if the times were reversed.

you are laughing, but the main argument for why this game should be played is because its "been played for X amount of years"
tradition =/= rivalry, and sometimes traditions end or change...thats what happens when the SEC decides to expand
the fact that you are laughing at other rivalries just proves what most people believe...I bet UGA/GT and Missouri/Kansas fans would laugh at TTSIO if you told them you thought TTSIO is better than their rivalry
TTSIO is only important to Alabama and Tennessee fans, period. You can laugh and debate otherwise, but its the truth. No one cared or said anything before because it never affected anything...but now this game and Auburn-UGA are directly messing with the entire SEC schedule
so if the SEC wont do anything about an alternative, the game has to be played OOC or removed

Well, that's a shame. It's a great rivalry with some fantastic games that mean a lot to college football and created many legends of the game. Since it will always be on the schedule, I guess those who feel it's a second tier rivalry are just going to have to

3 SEC rivalry games off the top of my head better than TSIO.
1. Iron Bowl
2. UGA v. Florida
3. AU v. Georgia

Well if Auburn isn't your rival...why not ship Auburn east and move Tennessee to the west?

I'm laughing because it doesn't matter how long the series has been. That's never been my argument. Really haven't had an argument other than it's a rivalry. Both teams are tops in the league in all-time wins/conference championships and hate one another. That's all I need to know to qualify for a rivalry. I don't give a shite if limp dick Boise St. fan or whoever knows or not. Tennessee is down. Bama has been down before. Even when both teams have had good teams at the same time, the steaks against one another continued. Hey, I'm with you. I'd love to expand the schedule and play Bama as an OCC. I'd be willing to bet that the schedule will expand in the near future and this will be a mute point.

All get better rating and have more people outside the respected states interested in them. Your opinion does not count.
PS not going digging for the ratings and overnights for those games historically.

I'd rather watch Auburn/Alabama (regardless of ranking and record) than Alabama/Tennessee or Georgia/Auburn. But I'm not a fan of any of these schools. So it is easy for me to say.
