re: Question for Bama fans....

Since Saban's arrival at Bama in '07, Bama holds a 4-3 advantage. If you look at the scores of those 7 games one is a statistical outlier (guess which one?).

In the six regular season games over that period, the record is 3-3. There has been a lead change in the 4th qtr or a tie in all six. There is 6pt differential over those games.

Let just use this argument for the sake of the OP's question. LSU slipping? Well, yes, according to these stats, as Bama now has the advantage and won two of the last three. All the while Saban has been rebuilding, now reloading at Bama, what's Miles accomplished? An SECC? Cool. Even gave his players rings that said "2d Nationally." WTH?

I'm not trying to take anything away from LSU but I am answering the OP's question. I DO think LSU is as competitive with Alabama as anyone else RIGHT NOW. The results aren't the same but yes, it's a competitive rivalry.

Do you have to cry to be emotional? Prefer gut-wrentching?

We'll see how both teams go forward after such an emotional game. Neither team can't dwell on it for different reasons.

LSU was crushed in the BCS yet was preseason #1 this year. They've lost two games already and it will be interesting to see how Miles rights the ship the rest of the season (when there's nothing left to play for) and beyond. Bama/Saban did it after 2010 and is in the drivers seat to repeat as Champions.

Night, Tiger Stadium, revenge, comments like "where dreams come to die..." Not to flame but when your best just isn't good enough is a hard thing to digest, especially since it was labeled THE GAME (y'alls words, not mine). Miles could be done, IMO. You could argue no one has done less with more than Miles. Inherited a "damn fine team" in 2005. Sure he won the BCS (two losses) in 2007 with Saban's players and has the Tigers continually in the hunt. Before January, wasn't the 2011 LSU team arguably "the best college football had ever seen"? Eventually, someone has to ask the tough question. The reality is who would be better? Don't know.

But look across the sideline. Saban got to Bama the same year and basically started from scratch. Now going for his THIRD BCS during those same, short six years. That trophy is all that matters.

It is what it is and I make no apologies. I think the fan base at LSU is second to none, the atmosphere second to none. I also think if Saban were still at LSU, he'd be going for # five or six now, easily.

Great football game, by the way.

I keep saying this. Did the first half not count? Two great defenses. We scored three TDs, they scored two and a FG. Bama bent but didn't break.

Great game LSU. Wouldn't have expected anything less.

re: Saban responds to leaving Bama

If he goes, he goes (unlikely). He's not the first to win multiple NCs at Bama and won't be the last.

Awesome work. Hope it never happens but funny is funny.

Recently, all get better ratings and have more people outside the respected states interested in them.

Both teams are tops in the league in all-time wins/conference championships and hate one another. That's all I need to know to qualify for a rivalry.

Ahem. Go. Vol.

to the nation, Alabama and Auburn are rivals...TTSIO is second tier

Well, that's a shame. It's a great rivalry with some fantastic games that mean a lot to college football and created many legends of the game. Since it will always be on the schedule, I guess those who feel it's a second tier rivalry are just going to have to

LSU vs. Texas A&M (buried at 11 a.m. in favor of TSIO): 2.8

TSIO, ESPN Primetime: 2.6

MOTHERfrickING BOOM

So it's all about ratings? You've been bought.

2.8-2.6 isn't much of a gap. What if UT has been in the top 20, as LSU and A&M? UT is down, but not out...

All of the rivalries listed above are better than TSIO.

Wow. Oldest=Better? Not necessarily.

Whoever did the informal poll, go back and ask if they're familiar with Alabama vs Tennessee rivalry. TTSIO title is insignificant. It's the rivalry game between the two most prestigious SEC schools. I don't expect people outside the south to know the significance of the physical date, but I guarantee you they know of that particular game.

quote:

The only reason TSIO is going to stay put is that UA is a participant.

You may be onto something...

Is it really fair to hold the rest of the conference hostage because the older generation wants its little-known rivalry?

Well, some have said we run the conference (), so using their own words, YES, we'll do what we want.

I'm being sarcastic but of course Mizzou doesn't belong in the East. Alabama didn't do that. But what's the solution? I didn't want expansion to begin with.

I'm 42 by the way. My post about "younger folks" applies to those who seem to ignore history for the sake of argument and the immediate situation. The SEC was built into what it is today by great traditions and rivalries. That's the fabric of our passion and what separates us from the other conferences. We don't have as many pro teams, big media markets, etc. College football is revered much more in the South. I just hate seeing us change some of the things that made us what we are to accommodate expansion and TV schedules.

Call me old school if you want. It's a badge I wear with pride.

saying "deal with it" is a childish way of trying to prove your point of an argument is all I was getting at

No, this is childish:

...its a shitty rivalry that only older Bama fans even care about

until then, frick you

what a fricking retard, typical of a Gump who thinks the college football world only revolves around them

I appreciate the discussion, but calling ME childish is very hypocritical. Regardless, enjoy the bye week.
quote:

just like Alabama fans "dealt with it" in 2010 when four teams had bye weeks before them

You're off topic again but it was SIX teams. PROOF for 18

quote:

"The numbers are so out of whack," Bloom said, "I think the athletics directors agreed that we needed to look into it."

Can you imagine the meltdown if LSU had six teams with bye weeks before facing them? :wah:

re: Kirby Smart: next SEC HC hire?

Posted by TCBRTR on 10/22/12 at 11:21 am
Kirby needs to do what Jim McElwain did. Get his first HC job outside the SEC. Do well, and stay there until Saban retires, then go to the top of the list at Alabama or Georgia. Bama won't hire another coach without demonstrated/successful HC experience.
quote:

Its no use arguing about it anymore. The game is going to happen for at least one more year...we can only pray for the 9 game SEC schedule or some other shift starting in 2014

As long as Bama plays the Vols, I'm good with it.
Hey Stingray, you know that's not a tiger shark in your signature, right?
