Both teams have been mediocre at various times during the rivalry. It's still a great rivalry that means a lot to many people.

It was on ESPN primetime because Alabama is the number one team in the country, dipshite

Alabama and UT will continue to play and fans of irrelevant no-history teams like ark and LSU will just have to accept it.

Aw that's cute. You seem angry that no one outside the rural alabama/tennessee areas give two shits about your rivalry

there is no "many people" its just you and Tennessee fans

Kansas and Mizzou was a great rivalry...Texas A&M and Texas was a great rivalry. Both are willing to put it behind them to make a new tradition and history

Bama vs Tennessee is a lame rivalry that most of the country doesn't even know exists, I promise you. Just because its old doesn't mean its worth continuing

The SEC is changing, fast, and some things will have to go by the wayside. And if it really means so much to both those fan bases, they can still schedule the game every year and everything will be fine

But by all means, continue to try and convince people who much this "matters" to "all of college football"

Yeah, I think that sucks.

It sucks, but they realize that it is better for themselves to start a new tradition in a better league

Tradition and history can be changed...the SEC is changing...Alabama/Tenn and Auburn/UGA are just selfish, period. I understand why you are selfish, but don't try and convince the other teams fans that your rivalries matter to them because they don't.

Frankly, I don't care what other fanbases think of the rivalries. It's irrelevant whether it matters to them, and I imagine most Alabama/Tennessee/Georgia/Auburn fans feel the same way. The traditional rivalries are a big part of what makes college football so much better than pro football, in my opinion.

Tennessee sucks right now, but it doesn't mean that they will suck forever or that the rivalry will be irrelevant to others forever.

Then why did the OP start this thread? Why do the fan bases try and explain why it is so great that these be preserved when in fact they are bad for the league as a whole?

Instead of just admitting it, you deflect by saying "Tennessee will be good again at some point." "Its a streaky rivalry." "LSU fans are scared of playing Florida every year" etc., etc.

These games are preserved...at least for one more year. We will see what the future holds. Hopefully everyone can come to their senses (add two more teams, go to a 9 game schedule, or drop these worthless rivalries and let them schedule them OOC if they care so much)

I'm the OP. I created the thread because I read a lot of posts last week saying the TTSIO was irrelevant because UT is down right now. I think that mindset is incredibly short-sighted and wrong.

Can you really, legitimately change history? It is what it is, no?

Again, college football didn't start when Saban arrived at LSU...

Newsflash:

LSU only had one coach with a losing fricking record.... A gump loving Tuscaloosa native from Ala-fricking-Bama: his record versus Bama & aTm are almost to the point of being a conspiracy. Frick everything from Alabama!

And yes you better believe I'm fricking mad!

Eighteen,

I think TTSIO is one of the best rivalries in college football and it would be a mistake to lose it. It's all about the history, tradition and pageantry that makes college football so special. That's the point of my thread and the only point I'm trying to make. I'm not stupid, irrational or selfish about it. There are other great rivalries, some probably involving LSU, although Ole Miss-LSU is the only one that holds historical significance, in my opinion.

According to your (or someone else) own data, it's the 16th most important rivalry. I argue it's better than that but so what? Isn't the 16th most important rivalry in college football worth preserving?

Is your rant really just butthurt over LSU's schedule next year? You got a perceived bad deal because a great rivalry was preserved? Do I understand that correctly?

Fact: preserving this rivalry has resulted in two "bridge" schedules (aka a cluster of randomness)

I understand why your fans want to preserve the rivalry...but the SEC is changing. If the SEC cares so much about tradition they wouldn't be adding new teams in the first place. But they are...so something has to give.

As it stands, your "rivalries" are making our conference a joke.

The SEC either needs to add two more teams to get to 16 or go to a 9 game SEC schedule

if neither of those are going to happen, then these rivalries have to go (and you can Tenn can schedule it OOC if you really want to keep it so bad)

What am I wrong about?
