You kids are so young. It just astounds you that the SEC hasn't been a freight train even since footbawl was invented.
I'm telling you, with Saban gone, and two Texas schools dominating recruiting in the Lone Star state, and 14 of you little states left to peck away at Florida and Texas leftovers... Good luck.
You'll be sorry you ever met us.

You sound like Jonny Ringo. You will find out that texas is only thought of in high regard only by texas fans. Also, I would rather recruit the Southeast than texas, You can have it.

It was a great year to be a gamecock. we bounced back from 0-11. Beat UGA, Beat Ohio State in a bowl game.

Was that the year of the infamous Pancake Squad or whatever the OL was called? And then they couldn't block my beagle puppy?

UGA had no excuses in 2000. That team was absolutely LOADED with talent. Boss and Champ Bailey. Seymour and Stroud. Jonathan Sullivan. Cocaine Quincy at QB. Reggie Brown at WR. The Stinchomb boys. so many of those guys played in the NFL

You'd be 100% correct if it weren't for the nagging little fact that South Caroline west to Louisiana, not including Tennessee, produces more NFL talent than Texas and Florida combined in an area that is 90% the size of Texas alone and 73% the size of Texas and Florida combined and has a population that is 96% of that if Texas alone and 56% of that of Texas and Florida combined. For all the talent that comes from Florida and Texas the SC, GA, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana talent is more numerous in a smaller area and comes from a smaller population. Toss Tennessee in the mix with the other 5 and its even worse for Texas and Florida. The fact of the matter is that the SE without Florida is the richest recruiting ground for football talent and it is not close. Throw Florida in and it is embarrassing how much better high school football talent is in the SE.

One could argue that Quncy was the issue...combined with Jim Donnan it was a mess.....

This post is seriously misleading although not factually incorrect I guess. It's like when people reference all the future NFL megastars on 2001 Miami while ignoring that many of the guys cited were freshmen who didn't even play.
-Boss was really good as an underclassman but he wasn't the "oh damn he's good" player we know until 2002.
-Champ is champ
-Seymour/Stroud, nothing else to be said there. Studs.
-Nobody even knew who jonathan sullivan was until 2002. He exploded that year (it helped having Pollack, Will Thompson, and Kedrick Golston take some heat off him) and was drafted in the top 10 but 2000 JS was a nobody.
-Reggie Brown is again another dude that made a name for himself primarily as an upperclassman. In 2000 he was a true freshman that had less than 150 yards and 1 TD.
-Stinchcomb was great for sure
-And then Quincy, such an enigma. Started out white hot as an (old) freshman then declined every year after.
CFB was such a different era back then compared to now. We undoubtedly SHOULD have beaten SC and tech that year. No shame in losses to UF and AU. If by some miracle we ended up ranked high as a 10-2 team most of the top 10 at that time would have likely walloped us anyway.

Georgia had B+ talent and C- coaching. It happens and nothing will change the fact the wrong guy is leading the program.

Quincy Carter set the tone in 2000 by going into Columbia, throwing 5 godawful interceptions, and handing South Carolina their first conference win in two years. What a miserable season

I don't look at that era as shitty as many other fans do. I see it as the natural slow buildup to where we are now, it's kinda crazy when you think about it.
Ray Goff- lousy. We had a damn good team in 92 and were 4 points away from an undefeated regular season but that's about it of note. Some BAD seasons too especially 94/95. This is the bottom
Donnan- got us out of the cellar. Majorly upgraded the talent from top to bottom and got us from losing seasons to 8/9 win seasons. He was never going to win it all but he had the herculean effort of turning the ship around in the post-Jan Kemp era. As a side note, I don't think the young peopple on the board (or hell, most people in general) really grasp how bad that situaiton set us back. It was basically a self imposed arse raping.
Richt- Took the baton from Donnan and ran with it. Contiued to keep talent high and upgraded it even more. Reset expectations and actually won the SEC a few times. Won the east even more. Won some big bowl games .Completely turned around the tech/AU/UT series. The only thing he really lacked was a natty.
Kirby- obvious

I was referring to 2000. The State defense in 1999 was really good. Lost two games to Bama & Arky and only gave up 19 points in each game. Had we been able to combine the 1999 defense with the 2000 offense, State probably wins the conference both years. Unfortunately that is usually the tale with teams. The stars don’t quite align in a given year.
Fair; it's just when you said "good" wins I don't think many people would consider beating Alabama in 2000 a "good" win - we were objectively horrible.

Preseason #3. First game vs UCLA at the Rose Bowl. Freddie Milons returned a punt for a touchdown to put Bama up 7-0.
The season was all downhill from there, including a 21-0 loss to Southern Miss and a homecoming loss to UCF.
I was there. Trapped in "VIP" parking til late in to the night/early the next morning. A grueling weekend.

I remember Tennessee's 4 losses that year...including a 3 point loss that included this:
