People seem to forget that Walker went to the USFL after his Junior year. They believe that players back then all stayed 4 years because of the NFL policy but the USFL provided them a way around it.

Herschel had 209 more attempts? Wow

Kevin Faulk never had that "wow" season where he wholly dominated the SEC though.
Hmm. That's an interesting way to look at his remarkable career. Safe to say, I couldn't disagree more.

Some highlights all american, three time first team SEC RB, Led the league in rushing two years in a row. Broke Walker's all-purpose record (averaged more yards from scrimmage per game than Walker, which actually surprised me to find out). Same YPC as Walker. 50 total touchdowns, 46 rushing.
My favorite game was against Houston. Set a school record, put a fourth quarter on that you'd have to see to believe and pulled Dinardo's bacon out of the fire. Guy was good on a team not nearly as good as they achieved.

McFadden
Was great but just didn't have enough around him while he was at Arkansas. Only one great year as a team hurt his stock.

I remember him outrunning an UGA DB who had the angle on him. I hadn't seen a decent size running back do that since Bo or HW.
2005. Run DMC's freshman year. I think he ran by Tra Battle? Battle wasn't a burner but I remember thinking to myself, "Holy shite. This guy is going to be special."

In the "modern" age (post integration, scholly limits) I agree that Bo and Herschel were the two best. I think D Mac is a clear #3. He was amazing to watch, had fantastic numbers, and could very well have won the Heisman. IMO those three guys all have spots in the pantheon. If Arkansas had won an SEC championship I think he would more often make it a conversation of who is the fourth best after those three guys. The fact that he didn't do much in the NFL also hurts, even though this is about college careers.
Faulk, Smith, and Shaun Alexander are IMO, the next level down, and I wouldn't argue with any of them being in there (as long as the top 3 were also included). After that you get guys like Cadillac and Mark Ingram. Fantastic players in college, but not transcendent.

Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Jim Brown were all A LOT better.
This is fricking blasphemy! We can talk about better cuts, more power downhill, etc. But nobody was A LOT better than Emmitt Damn Smith. He's the most elusive and tough to tackle back of all time. You know why you've never seen Emmitt get lit up? Cause it didn't fricking happen. Wash your mouth out with soap, and get out of here with that shite!

I'd agree to a point, but all of the measurables in terms of production show that Barry Sanders was the better back. He isn't in the SEC and this thread isn't about the NFL so, that's all I will say about it.

Larry Munson - DMAC 70 yards

Greatest Larry Munson call I ever heard, 2003 SEC championship game. After Lionel Turner intercepts a pass and returns it for a touchdown:
"LSU is lighting Georgia's face on fire and putting it out with a shovel."

Even though I dislike Georgia intensely, I have to wonder where Todd Gurley would have been on this list if he had been on the field more.
Compare those numbers to some of the guys like Walker and it doesn't include the fact that he was maybe the most dangerous returner in all of the NCAA when healthy. He just didn't get enough carries in the long run.
He Would have vaulted to 3rd at least if on the field for more than 30 games.

Yeah, I agree with this. Barry might have surpassed Emmitt had he had the same variables around him. But I don't think it would be enough to put him in a class above Emmitt like the person who I responded to.

Have not heard a better four yet than
Jackson
Walker
Ingram
McFadden

Yes...UGA had virtually no other offensive weapons outside of Herschel.

Shaun Alexander probably deserves some mention.
Especially considering the Bama teams he played on were hardly loaded with blue chippers, compared to Ingram.
I remember the LSU game his freshman year. 20 rushes for 291 yards and 4 TDs. TD runs of 72 and 73 yards. One of the best single player performances I've ever seen.

And Bo ran the wrong way and cost Auburn the 84 game, shite happens. Every great player has had WTF moments and bad games.

IIRC, Daren Bates hit Ingram late or helmet-to-helmet or something like that in the 2009 Iron Bowl in the first quarter.
