Emmitt was great, but whoever said he is the best NFL rb of all time is high. Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Jim Brown were all A LOT better. Give any of those guys that Cowboys offensive line that was insanely good and their stats would be on another level. Those 3 are the greatest of all time to me. Emmitt is right there with OJ, dickerson, faulk, and campbell. As for the SEC pantheon, I would probably go Walker, Bo, McFadden, and then a huge drop and have Emmitt, kevin faulk, and shaun alexander in some kind of order.

George Rogers was good, but he doesn't belong in the conversation with Herschel and Bo. And for a couple of you Florida fans, Emmitt doesn't either.
Look at some of the names of the Heisman finalists in Bo's three years:
Jim McMahon, Marcus Allen, Dan Marino, Anthony Carter, John Elway, Eric Dickerson

I would think that the conference's all time leader in all-purpose yards would be in the uppermost echelon.

McFadden was as close as anyone will ever get to being mentioned with Herschel & Bo
We are forgetting the player that was:
2X consensus AP college player of the year
Heisman trophy winner
2X All-American
1st pick in the NFL draft
led the AFL in rushing

Kevin Faulk never had that "wow" season where he wholly dominated the SEC though.
He was consistently very good, but never great.

If you're talking about Billy Cannon, I don't think any player pre-integration deserves as much respect as Herschel or Bo.

The competition just wasn't the same though. Billy Cannon spent his time at LSU outrunning good ole baws
ETA: more a statement about his football plays than his 100m time

There are only 3 SEC running backs that completely dominated the college football landscape and were the absolute talk of the nation:
Cannon
Bo
Hershel

What would it take for people to refer to another RB in the same manner as they do Herschel and Bo?
such bullshite...they are not 'head and shoulders' above everyone else.
they wouldnt even be top gun if Dmac would have stayed.
Darren McFadden would have smashed every record for the RB position had he stayed four years. There would be no discussion. He had 4500 yards in 3 years.

How many yards did HW have in his three years?
I can give you a hint. >

This. McFadden to me was as good as the others.

I loved watching that SOB go over the top. I can't tell you how many hours I spent diving over the back of the couch in our living room pretending to be Herschel. I don't know of any SEC RB (Bo would be a close second) who captured the imagination of the entire conference like Herschel. It was a step change in what I thought a running back could be when I saw him.

Higher rushing average than Herschel Walker. Almost as many TDs. Almost three times as many receiving yards.
No fair, you're using logic!

Well, Felix Jones has the highest yards per carry average in the history of the SEC. So, clearly he's at the top.
Henry Josie is #2. Eddie Lacy #3. Jeff Demps #4. Matt Jones #5. Bo Jackson #6. Tony Nathan #7. Todd Gurley #8. Dexter McLuster #9. Glynn Harrison #10.

McFadden is the guy I think of that should have gotten there.
I consider him 3rd. He should have won the Hiesman. I remember him outrunning an UGA DB who had the angle on him. I hadn't seen a decent size running back do that since Bo or HW.

Actually, that would be Pat Sullivan.
Remind us how his last Iron Bowl went?
