NO. CFB is barely holding on to what made it special to begin with. Watering down the regular season even more will only make it worse.

Yea there's nothing quite like having a national champion who isn't the best team.
That makes college football so exciting

Go ahead and make it 12 teams, and call it a day.
Automatic qualifiers go to every major conference champ, so you'd get Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Washington to start out. That leaves 7 extra spots- Notre Dame, UCF (best non-Power Five team), then on down the list in the rankings.
Give the top 4 teams a bye, and you get:
1) Alabama vs UGA/Penn State
4) Oklahoma vs UCF/Washington
2)Clemson vs Ohio State/LSU
3) Notre Dame vs Michigan/Florida
I'd say this would screw over the bowls, but they're an afterthought at this point. Let the first rd games be at the higher ranked team's house, and then go into neutral sites from there. Use traditional bowl sites tied into the likely geography and history

6 teams. 1 & 2 get byes. 3 & 4 get a home game on campus the week after championship weekend same weekend as Army/Navy. I have always believed this was the best plan and I think this is where we will get too.

the CFP contract calls for 4 teams and no change for 12 years (this is year 5 of the current contract) when the BCS was replaced with the CFP they set 12 years to keep from having to debate 6 - 8 - 10 -12 -16 -130 until this set would get a good review. If they went to 6, wouldnt UCF have a great bitch? 2 years without losing a game, beating the crackers out of an SEC team last year (that had beaten #1 twice)... so, if you let them in, you have to go to 8 and thats another 2 loss team, well, why stop there.... as the guys who worked this out, knew there will be no pleasing the next team(s) left out, each time there will be losers who will bitch
12 years is an eternity in sports. This contract should have had review periods every 4 years. There is zero chance this doesn’t get fixed in the next 7 years.

takes the importance out of regular season games.
Silly argument but if that's the worst that happens then gimme a real playoff right now.

We lost 2 games. We have no argument

4-Good
6-Better (P5 conf champs all have chance to get in unless they suck).
8-too many

4 is fine. You can never satisfy everyone and there will always be a conversation no matter how many teams are included

You really think it's "absurd" Georgia is getting left out? They lost two games, including a playoff game 2 days ago.
There isn't a single season in NCAA history where Ohio State is getting into the championship with this resume and they still aren't. Seems right to me.
That being said they should probably expand it, but that game they just played needed to be the first round.

I think two teams is the correct number. History has shown that 1 and 2 are much better than 3 and 4. As it is again this year.
The playoffs are only 4 years old and already the #4 seed has won it all twice. So no, history does not show the despondency you suggest.

I think we should go with 7.

7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 doors. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.

just think how 7 and 8 would feel when they get screwed.

Can’t have byes. Too big of an advantage.

Georgia lost twice. They had their chance.

Who cares.
Four spots for five "power" conferences chosen behind closed doors by 13 people is and always will be stupid.
Six teams picked using much more objective criteria is the way to go.

I would take 6 champs and 2 at large
That way non champs would fight over the 2 at large spots keeping regular season style points important

If you expand you expand to 8. Expanding to 6 makes no sense at all.
