The ONLY reason I have had a live TV package the last few years was for sports. No more.

If I want to watch something badly enough, I'll just find a way to bootleg it.

$75 a month (YouTube TV was my latest) to watch a couple of games (at most)? Thank you, no.

Makes me wonder just how long this model will stay in place with all the other streaming platforms. I mean, at what point does ESPN just say "screw it" and offer a streaming package of their own?

Yes, I realize ESPN+ is a thing, but it sucks. Bunch of fringe crap.

ESPN is planning to offer a streaming package. Price point will be critical. It'd have to be at least half the cost of the Sling package to be a legitimate option. All ESPN networks for $10-15/mo...yeah, but I wouldn't pay more than that.

ESPN sorely needs to uograde their app.

It is hot garbage.

Why can Netflix have an amazing interface and nobody else can do it quite like them.

Everybody should just copy Netflix

My question is why do we even have to pay at all when half of the program consists of commercials? Commercials are a way to finance free-to-air programming. I remember back in the day you subscribed to HBO/Max because it had no commercials. That was the model: if it's free, you get commercials. If it's subscription, you get none.

Now all these outfits are double dipping. Charging sub fees and running a shitload of commercials.

Agree. It boggles my mind that major platforms can have crap interfaces.

HBO had a crappy app, then doubled down and rebranded to ditch one of the most iconic names in entertainment to call their app "Max".

How do the people who run these things not call their programmers in and slap them around when they produce this crap?

And yet almost all still lose money because the idiots running them way overpay for content to show

This is what needs to be right sized

Get an Amazon Firestick. Someone is always streaming a live stream of every game for free.

I cut out live TV because there was nothing worth watching other than sports. I stream paramount (included free cbs) and Disney Hulu bundle. I have Prime as part of Amazon, and would love to add ESPN as a stand alone or bundle with Hulu Disney that included all the ESPN content.

I pay by the year to simplify things and can stream ESPN via a TV log in (I pay my grandmothers cable and internet bill so she will have internet) and would prefer the simplicity of just content over the various channels. I don’t care that something is on ESPN+ or ESPNNews, if it’s on ESPN I would pay to just stream it.

To go cheap you can get an IPTV subscription for $25 a year(per stream) on Alibaba that has 15000 channels from all over the world and all of the VOD you could ever want. Every US channel and any sport channel you can imagine, it is especially good for F1, soccer etc. fans.

The only shortcoming is some of the SEC+ etc aren't available but there are other ways of finding most of them online.

The one I'm currently using ($120 yr. for 4 streams) works better than YoutubeTV did when I had it.

Most streaming platforms don't offer live TV like Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney plus are just streaming movies and series. Only option for TV is Uverse, Directv, and YoutubeTV. I think there's a couple others. Demand will always be there for sports. If Netflix and Prime start offering live TV with movies and series, then Youtube TV and others would go away if cheaper.

I’ve just given up.

If I can find a game while I’m home, I’ll watch it, but I no longer plan my weekends around football or whatever.

Life was fine before every game was on Tv so for me it’s not limiting.

I’d rather do something than watch something.

At one point, I was addicted to live sports. Planned my weekends around Auburn football. Not anymore. Quit my season tickets as parking and the game day slog devolved. Quit watching on good weather days. I do watch night games and on rainy days, but I do not plan my weekend around a game where I have no input into the time.

Agreed
I mean if someone plans everything single weekend around a football game then they need help.
Why do I want to see Alabama beat the crap out of Georgia Southern live at noon when it's a beautiful day out to do something productive.
