The distinction between NFL, UFL professionals vs college players is so blurred it is ludicrous to make the distinction. Let alone, those "professionals" who had a tryout for the NFL, many of whom get no compensation or a very small compensation compared to even the lowest paid P4 college offensive lineman.
These folks aren't professionals? Sure looks like they are generously compensated with life altering money.
Texas reportedly paid between $3 and $3.5 million for Cam Coleman.
Florida reportedly paid Jadan Baugh 1.3 million
Chambliss reportedly is being 5-6 million at Ole Miss and Lacy 2 million
Stockton is reportedly paid 2 million
So please, don't play this holier than thou crap about the "amateur (wink, wink) student athlete".

All these schools with sixth year and seventh year players are going to be pretty damn good with them this year. But how dare those schools do that to those incoming freshman! ;)

Agree with you. More than blurred… basically the same with NIL. Read the South Carolina QB has a golf internship somewhere this year. Apparently you can play football without taking a single class nowadays.
The entire thing is a free for all shite show. Not sure how anyone, including Kiffin, can be singled out for anything. Current state of affairs is a direct result of 20+ years of protectionism by NCAA when it comes to TV money. Now they lost total control and consistently get their arse kicked in court. Laughable.

I agree, college athletics are a mess.
It's all built on tradition and not actual law though so it's going to get worse. There's nothing really keeping unlimited eligibility from becoming a thing.

I don't think anybody is "playing" that anymore.
In fact about the only SEC fans who even mention stuff like that anymore (besides Vandy fans) are stray Texas fans who try to pretend that a University of Texas jock degree in 'Physical Culture and Sports' is somehow "valuable".... as if it were in the same category as a degree in a legitimate field of study from UT-Austin.

High school graduates can have a choice to pursue the traditional, non-paid scholarship model, or try and go semi-pro with a contract, at their own risk.
Instead of bending one to fit the other, keep the two separate and let everyone have a choice.

It would fail.
Nobody cares about minor league football. College players get paid because of the school on their jersey more so than the player’s talent.

Let's face it, most college football fans are 12 year old girls.

NFL gets all of this for free with college. And colleges drop serious money into player development/training/etc. And the competition is great.
NFL has a great situation currently.
