The Greatest College Football Player from Every State According to 247Sports by Prof
quote:Tennessee: Reggie White

quote: Louisiana: Peyton Manning

This is one opinion (247sports' opinion).
However, they failed to do ANY kind of research.
Manning had a better pro career than college.

He had one great year (and should have won Heisman), but there have been several players native to Louisiana who had just as good a career or approaching his accomplishments in COLLEGE:

i.e.
Kevin Faulk
Terry Bradshaw
Billy Cannon
Charlie Joiner
Steve Van Buren
Tommy Casanova
Jerry Stovall
Joe Ferguson
Bobby Duhon
Wendell Davis
Doc Fenton
Marshall Faulk
Odell Becckham Jr
Eli Manning
Bert Jones
Alan Faneca
Bobby Hebert
Matt Forte
Gaynell Tinsley
Abe Mickal
Kevin Mawae
Dalton Hilliard
Tommy Hodson
Tyrann Mathieu
Patrick Peterson
A.J. Duhe
Johnny Robinson
Roy Winston
Ronnie Estay
Tim Rattay
Willie Roaf
Troy Edwards
Roger Carr
Pat Tilley
Jeremy Hill
Eric Martin

I agree that peyton's legacy is a bit inflated due to his enormous NFL success, but I mean I've never heard of like half the guys you just listed. Surely not every one of those people were as successful in college as peyton.

Jerry Rice is the obvious answer. You could also chime in with Walter Payton or Brett Farve

So you think guys from Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State, and Southern Miss are the best to ever play COLLEGE football in Mississippi? No one from Mississippi State or Ole Miss? Interesting.

This is laughable. Cam Newton is the best CFB to ever step on a field

He took a 7-5 AU team and went undefeated

I remember when Jerry Rice was selected to play in the Blue Gray game which was a big deal then with big names. He won MVP.

I have not the slightest negative thing to say about Baugh, but just for transparency's sake the NFL was only around about 30 years at the time of his retirement.

Still the second best average per punt for a careerin NFL history. Tied for the most seasons leading the league in passing and fewest interceptions (tied with Steve Young). Has the 4th highest completion percentage for a season. The only player in NFL history to lead the league in passing, punting and interceptions in the same season.

Is it a grades problem or just shitty talent evaluation by the larger schools in Mississippi?

Anyone who would select Deion Sanders as the greatest player from Florida must not be aware that Derrick Thomas was born in Miami.

Jerry Rice grew up 10 minutes from MSU and couldn't get a sniff of an offer.
We (MSU) told McNair that he could come be a safety.
We had Favre's brother on the team as a 3rd-4th string QB, and told Bret that he could have a shot at safety.

Shitty evaluation doesn't begin to describe it. Like a classic Greek tragedy, Fate has destined us to football mediocrity

Because he couldnt beat out Tim Tebow who was a year ahead of him?

Not sure how that's any indication of him not being the best. To me, Cam Newton just seemed flat out unstoppable. He took a fairly average team at Auburn and won a national title. It's scary to think what he could have done if he was given more than 1 year to start at the FBS level.

Having Tim Tebow and Cam Newton on the same team would be like having Drew Brees and Peyton Manning on the same team. Can't really go wrong with either...they started the guy who had a little more experience.

How's it funny? You do realize he's in the CFB HOF right? He was NCAA all-time leading receiver for years. He managed to become a 1st round pick despite not having the greatest measurables and playing for a divison I-AA school. I have no doubt he would've dominated division I football had he gotten a chance to play there.

To be fair to the MSU coaches, Steve McNair had some ridiculous stats as a DB his Senior year of high school.

I don't know the exact number, but he had over 20 interceptions that season.

Not true. Jerry Rice had an offer from State. State was playing old school ball and Rice thought he could use his abilities better at Mississippi Valley since they put the ball in the air alot. I just read this a couple of weeks ago.

Because in the history of NCAA football there have undoubtedly been better wide receivers?

Is he the only WR in there?

playing for a divison I-AA school

must have faced a hell of a lot of secondary talent

I'm not saying the dude sucked, he was obviously and clearly great. But to suggest he's the BEST NCAA WR OF ALL TIME is simply due to his notoriety of his professional career.

Is this a serious question? Cam did way more than Vince Young despite having vastly inferior talent around him. VY was a great CFB player, but he wasn't ballpark Newton playing in the weak Big12

That's a good list of Louisiana players.

Was going to say Y.A. Tittle should be on it too, but I looked him up. Born in Texas even if he played at LSU.

His pro career derailed from injuries, but I still think Bert Jones had the best physical tools to play qb in the NFL ever, at least as a pocket qb. Better arm talent than Bradshaw. Pretty good runner but not in Bradshaw's league at that.

Had an outstanding college career too.
