When they started putting every 6-6 and even 5-7 team in shitty bowl games, it just turned into a complete joke. ESPN is a total whore for any sponsor that wants to slap their name on one of these games.
yup. you went from under 20 bowls where you had to have a winning record to this current garbage

Why would anyone want to play these meaningless exhibition games anymore and risk injury or worse?
When have any but a tiny handful of bowls meant anything? Seriously, even before the BCS, maybe two or three bowls a season had any real meaning.
But teams still played them.

Didn’t Leonard Fournette start the whole, sit out the bowl thing like 20 years ago?

Teams that have 8 wins or more and didn’t make the playoff should just do a FCS style playoff and get an NIT trophy

The non-playoff bowls are only for tv content and gambling. Most schools lost money attending these games. That money can be better spent on NIL.

It should serve as a lesson.
Back in the day, going to a bowl game was a huge deal. There were only a handful of bowl games, and you had to have a really good season to make a bowl game.
It was a point of pride. Alabama has more bowl appearances that any other team. 40 years ago that was a big time stat.
But see, people wanted it even though they didn't really earn them. So they started adding more bowl games. And then more and more bowl games to the point they had to stop allowing new ones by implementing the 6 win standard.
And now 30 years later, it's unlikely Alabama's bowl record ever breaks because it's so easy to get a bowl game now. It's diluted, no longer seen as an accomplishment and nobody gives a frick about them.
Bowl team had meaning, and greed ruined it.
Playoff team has meaning, and it has already been devalued to not have as much meaning.
Everyone can't be winners, it doesn't work and it's fricking lame. Participation trophy people need a kick in the nuts.

like the arse take of “extra practices” like anybody gives a shite anymore about that
I'm not sure it an arse take. It is true, and the coaches and staffs probably value the reps. The opt outs actually help them get better prep for Spring and the next year.
It is just the steam goes out of the value of the bowl teams and the players' effort when everyone makes it and the outcome doesn't really carry the weight of bragging rights it once die.
For example, I think Kiffin should coach LSU in the bowl. Or, at least, direct the scheme changes and verbiage he wants to be sprinkled in. He can start instilling some of his stuff, but more importantly evaluate staff and talent that LSU may retain. Big leg up for a larger overhaul in Spring and for Fall 2026. And, no one gives a shite about the outcome other than an ego who may not want to start out officially as 0-1 in his new job, if things go badly with too much change too fast.

I remember. And most years of those 5, usually at most 2 or 3 had real national championship ramifications.
Having this many teams decline bowl games is not good for the sport. In fact, it’s terrible.

Do these bowl games at the beginning of the year to fulfill whatever contract obligations there may be.
Make a rematch of the NC game the first game of the year in the Rose Bowl.
Put previous playoff teams in the Sugar, Fiesta, Peach, Cotton, and Orange Bowls.
Figure the rest out from there.
Make it almost like a preseason game that cannot hurt your season if you lose.
That saves premier matchups like OSU vs Texas this year without penalizing Texas for losing.

Keep the bowl games but don’t have an official W-L record in the books. Use it for next year’s prep and team building

It began years ago actually.
The bowl games will go away. And the same stupid frickers who cheer this on are also bitching that it's happening. It's pretty wild.

Like Kirby said last week, if you’re scared of injury you’re gonna get injured. You play to build momentum for next year, you play for the seniors that might not get another shot.

Don’t like the bowl games, don’t go. It’s that easy. What’s the point of complaining about more football? Seems more pointless than the bowl itself.

The stands in these games are always totally empty.
Schools claims they lose money going to them.
Don't see how these dozens of anonymous crap bowls survive.

Just begun? Bowls haven’t mattered in over a decade.

Yeah, him and his alters kept saying they just hated Brian Kelly. He’s gone and they still can’t get us out of their warped little brains. It’s rather sad.
