Well, to start with, they are conference champions.

I agree. Texas wouldn’t have beaten Bama later in the season and they did lose to a bad Oklahoma team. UGA is amoung the 4 best EASILY.

It's pretty ironic that I was sitting on a dreary September night drinking and cheering for Texas to beat Bama. Had that game not happened we would have lost to an undefeated team and probably gotten in

Texas is the darling of ESPN due to their long partnership with the Longhorn Network. They will always push for Texas to get ahead. ESPN is the one who has started that Texas is back nonsense every summer for the last 15 years. ESPN is the one who got Texas into the SEC. ESPN is the one who helped Texas get a very easy first SEC conference schedule next year. The only hard team they play is Georgia and that’s at home. Go back and look at Missouri and Aggie schedule from their first season in SEC back in 2012. Big difference in strength of schedule compared to what Texas has in 24.

Yall really are some braindead losers on this board if you don't know why Texas got in over UGA.

And Alabama would have lost to Auburn if not for a Hail Mary on the last play, so what's your point?

I've seen people try to justify that as "well it's the Iron Bowl, anything can happen" as if the red river shootout doesn't have the same dynamic.

Expect that ends with demise of longhorn network.

How many other games featured two P5 conference champions? Georgia got the short end of the stick but they had their opportunity. The committee chose the right 4 teams, move the frick on.

Criteria from CFP Selection Committee Protocol (LINK )

quote:

The selection committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:

* Conference championships won,

* Strength of schedule,

* Head-to-head competition,

* Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,

* Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

Criteria #1: Conference championships won
Texas won a conference title; UGA did not.

Criteria #2: Strength of schedule
Texas #2; UGA #45

Criteria #3: Head-to-head competition
N/A

Criteria #4: Comparative outcomes of common opponents
Texas defeated Alabama; Georgia lost to Alabama

Criteria #5: Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance
Could write up some stuff for each but ultimately a wash. Each have injuries during the season and banged up players heading into the playoffs. It is a long season in a full contact sport, nobody is 100% healthy.

So, yeah, it is pretty obvious why they didn't make the field over Texas.

But there's the problem... They haven't followed these rules in the past. Why start now? Just face it, Texas is the make a wish kid in the playoffs. Your quality of losses is bad... Your conference is arse. They expected UGA to be in, but bama spoiled it all.

Here’s how stupid the CFP committee’s rankings are. An undefeated conference champ FSU wasn’t good enough to be in the top 4. However, they were still better than Georgia who dropped 5 spots after a 3 point loss. Glad that clown show is ending

As bad as the Big 12 is, the ACC is the worst power 5 conference.

We played a tougher schedule than UGA and beat the team they lost to by 10 at their place. This isn’t difficult. Take all of the shots you want at Texas ‘s underachievement over the last decade, but this is a totally different team. I’m not thrilled about playing Bama again with Saban having a month to prepare, but I would argue that the Horns have advantages over both the Tide and the Dawgs at most position groups. This our most talented team since 2008 (better than the 2009 runner up).

It’s the best team I’ve seen us have in the trenches since then by far!
