The courts have upheld conference rules almost exclusively. So, yes, the conferences can do as they wish.

The NCAA lawsuits worked because it was a blanket restriction on their market. Conference restrictions will become much more complicated, as the conference individually are allowed to be more restrictive than the NCAA. So even if the NCAA is forced by the courts to allow a blanket set of exclusion, you are still stuck with the conference rules.

Big 10 has players in this situation also. Ucla lb for 1. He will come play in sec I guess.

Great write up backing the SEC statement. If you CHOOSE to go pro, you shouldn’t get to come back. Those forced due to the change in ruling aren’t included in that.

No but they would actually need to rule against the SEC and they have less grounds to do so than the NCAA.

What the SEC should do is say if a player from the NFL returns to a team than the players on that team have the ability to transfer to another school because they may have signed there thinking there would be a position for them. Coaches thinking they may lose key players will be less likely to try this.

The SEC presidents agreed to hold themselves to a higher standard than the Texas group of ambulance chasers. 2022 Players can come and go as they like. Universities can not.

Unless you find some DEI judge, the SEC will easily be able to deflect any lawsuit just by saying "they still have option to return to CFB, the SEC is not prohibiting their ability to do so"

Why does no one answer this question? Truth is, it’s just like you said. If they have the power to suspend these players they have the power to suspend Chambliss.
