(Look. I agree that it's absurd. But absurd is where we are in race discussions today. It where sociology professors through their influence on culture have taken us. And it IS mainstream. It is where Ibram Kendi and Robin DeAngelo and their ilk have taken us.)
And it's nothing but a Marxist agenda they are pushing.
Race warfare is the new class warfare. Commies gonna commie.
I hope the fricking longhorns get to sing that Working On The Railroad song forever.

The "woke" people get to determine history in this country. They also get to determine what is "racist" and what is not. They can't really define what is racist about something but they know they are "offended."
This is all about getting to determine just who is in charge.
Monuments have been around for well over a hundred years but all of a sudden they are now defined by the woke people as being something they can't live with anymore. Statues and monuments are the low hanging fruit. They will go for the eradication of Western Civilization in the not too distant future.

The song/lyrics themselves are def not racist. The issue that the students (and I assume staff) bring up is the origin of the "eyes of Texas" is traced back to Robert E Lee (in some way) and the song was regularly performed in black face in the early 1900's.
Minstrel shows were a staple of entertainment throughout the US (but particularly in the south) for 100 years. At t.u., they were often used as fundraisers--an organization would put on a minstrel show hoping to draw a large crowd. These shows would include minstrel show staples, like I've Been Working on the Railroad, but they included parodies and just about anything that they thought would get a laugh. Some t.u. students had been toying with putting together a song to lampoon the school president's pet saying, when trying to implore students to do good, "Remember, the eyes of Texas are upon you." Finally, someone hit upon the idea of doing this as a parody of "I've Been Working on the Railroad." They performed this at the minstrel show (no doubt by guys performing in black face), and it was such a hit that it eventually became the school song.
Now, there's nothing about the lyrics that are racist, so the question is, do you ban the song because it's first performance was at a minstrel show? If that's the standard, "I've Been Working on the Railroad" should be banned, too (and, unlike EoT, it's original lyrics were explicitly racist).
Anyway, that's probably more facts than you want to know. Now, back to laughing at the sips.

The school gave them the middle finger and our whole stadium (including the team) sang the song with enthusiasm on Saturday.
We also have a donor led conservative think tank coming to campus soon. The good guys are fighting back and are winning.
Good to hear. I've got multiple sip grad buddies that the Ëyes controversy is the last straw for them. Seeing the game last year with Sam standing by himself singing really galvanized some folks.
The "2 bands" compromise was a bad move though. You compromise with leftists and they only see it as weakness as they go for more. Their goal is to destroy your culture completely and start over, not to have rational discussion.
As much as I freaking hate the sips I hope this becomes a turning point to move the needle back the other way to just weird liberal instead of crazy leftist.

She also has direct ties to A&M (at least one son and her son-in-law are A&M graduates) and was the dean of the College of Engineering.
She also doesn't frick the children of major donors like Young did. (He was run out of Utah because he was screwing the daughter of Spencer Eccles...as in Rice-Eccles Stadium)

Young college students and freedom are like a child playing with a loaded gun. They think they know what they are doing with it but wind up being a danger to themselves and to others.
These activists are wanting to leave their mark on the world but live in prosperous and free society where most societal wrongs have been righted to one degree or another, so causes and injustices must be invented to give these people something to yell about.

It wasn't just a handful of students messing around on their computer. This is the NAACP, along with the students, that filed this complaint.
Yeah, the ones who keep insisting stuff like this is just a few fringe lunatics are just as crazy as the ones actually pushing these ideas.
It's definitely the way a large sect of people in America want the country to go. And they will do nothing but get more powerful over the next 10-20 years. Hell, we have several sitting US representatives , senators, and members of the judicial system in office ALREADY.

This is the point. They want to tear it ALL down. It's how Marxism works. You destroy the culture and rebuild it from scratch changing history as you go along. That's what the Soviets did. That's what Mao did. That's what Pol Pot did....
Only difference is they are trying to do it here without firing a shot in a far more devious way. Divide us all and then use those divisions to get people to agree to support things they would never have supported before because the other side is for/against it. Instead of teaching kids HOW to think teach them WHAT to think.
Sad that so many people can't see it and just shrug it off. Oh, and make no mistake this isn't a Republican/Dem issue. Both Parties will manipulate voters.

It's not the lyrics, rather that the song was
a favorite in blackface minstrel shows performed
at TUa and other places.

It's funny how things change over a lifetime.
When I was young, people fought against government censorship and such.
These days, young people fight for it.

1. Texas is not yet in the SEC
2. This has nothing to do with sports
3. We have a Poliboard.
Trifecta fail.

Is there any public information on this think tank yet? I won’t give my money to UT but perhaps this organization….
