Corps of Cadets History

quote:

Members of the Cadet Corps have served in every conflict fought by the United States since the Spanish–American War. During World War II, Texas A.M.C. produced 20,229 Aggies who served in combat. Of those, 14,123 were commissioned as officers, more than the combined total of the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy during the same timeframe.

I am an Aggie, and I have often wondered this myself.

Obviously, the pants are military jodhpurs, but most military jodhpurs do NOT have that white panel on the inside of the legs. Perhaps a former member of the Corps can answer the question for both of us.

Hard to imagine now, but there was a time when the cadet corps at the land grant colleges (such as Texas AMC) were MUCH larger than the service academies (and thus produced more graduates). Why? Service academy students were (essentially) all going into the active-duty military immediately after graduation, and our military was fairly small. The schools were maintained at the size necessary to supply the limited need for new officers each year. By contrast, the land grant colleges' primary purpose was to educate a bunch of rural kids in agriculture and engineering, and the cadets at the land grant colleges were (for the most part) just going into the reserves. For instance, the Corps at TAMC was about 4x the size of the USMA.

In wartime, all those reserve officers were called to active duty. So, they outnumbered ring-knockers in uniform, just like they did in college.

I know several men who went to officers training school, that was located on the campus of aggy during World War II, and while the officer training school was on the campus, like several other college campus during the war, they never went to Texas a+m, and they said they were never aggy. So you can’t claim them as officers from a+m

the day-to-day uniforms are a bit… dated.

It’s funny, my grandfather graduated in 1937. In his pictures in his Ross Volunteer uniform, he could mix with this year‘s class.

By contrast, the daily uniforms are drastically different. They could stand another update.

Neat idea and it’s not too intrusive one way or the other.

Like the belt. The hat is a bit too close of the Corps alumni hat I’ve seen.

Overall it’s good.
