It is a little of everything.
1. NIL is having an impact. 5 star does not have to sit the bench at Bama to hopefully have a chance at NFL. He can go to another school, start, and get paid. Some 5 stars will make more their Freshmen year in NIL, than their parents have in life.
2. Transfer Portal changed everything. You were stuck with your team before, unless you had a RS year. Now, just go to what team needs and wants you.
3. Media exposure has changed. Basically every game is aired on TV. Then social media has also altered the highlights. You do need ESPN to show your highlight, it will get much more exposure on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, FB, Snapchat, etc....

Three different SEC schools have won the last four national championships. The SEC’s best four teams went 4-0 in their last game of the season last year and absolutely dismantled their opponents in their bowl/national championship game by a combined score of 204-48.
I am not sure your hypothesis is correct.

The eye opener to me about the portal was when Drew Sanders transferred to Arkansas. This kid was immediately the best athlete on our team and he was struggling for playing time at Bama.
It’s ridiculous the talent difference between the top few teams and the rest in college football. The top teams stockpile talent, the rest fire coaches.
Maybe it will eventually begin to balance out.

Correct. Kentucky just destroyed a team that used to beat them every single freaking year for literal generations. It ain’t because of NIL. They’re mastering the portal up there.
Which in terms of competition, is better for CFB as a whole. Yeah, the CFP won’t run soley through the SEC anymore, but that west coast game will actually be worth watching. All these teams that have sucked arse for the last 30 years are getting the 2nd and 3rd string guys from all the major powers. NIL helps in recruiting, but what’s really happening is the guy who’s been buries on the depth chart for 2 years can freely move on and start at a decent team. Sure no one on the team is a absolute stud, but you now teams full of decent football players. With a good coach, they can start knocking off the traditional powers more regularly instead once every few years.

Kids are going to where the best money is
Tennessee isn’t broke but we can’t compete with the Texas money
USC has that Hollywood money
OSU has rich donors boosters
Kids aren’t loyal to any program they want to get paid

That the State of Texas is playing by a different set of rules than the rest or at least were.
For those that will shout this down, Alabama 2 years ago repealed its NIL bill that had restrictions on Alabama and Auburn with NIL. Restrictions some SEC states still have and Texas never imposed.

I don't think it's so much the SEC going down...it's more of other conferences have come up = P-A-R-I-T-Y. You can thank the NIL & Portals for this. With rules changes to reflect the NFL, College football's = NFL-lite.
^ this
It will still be the blue bloods to some extent, but they will be joined by those that have enough money
Look for Notre Dame to become a major power again, with their immense support and national brand, it’s inevitable

To which I would say "Well played Texas, and now Alabama".
This has always bugged me. I'm not a booster. Never would be. But lets say I want to give a ball player a job, or buy him lunch. Its my money. I've never agreed that I should ask permission to do so. It was a set of rules that I never agreed to, or signed.

Bingo. Good take. With nil and portal, even a Vanderbilt or Missouri can become relevant for a period.
I see only solution is a total shift toward The NFL model. Draft, contracts etc. all players will become employees of their university.
All schools in respective leagues MUST abide by the rules like NFL.
I see SEC and Big 12 forming a League with two conferences with a Commisioner.
As well, I see ACC AND Big 10 doing same.
Similar to old AFC and NFC.
16 teams per conference. A playoff like NFL.
College SuperBowl played week before NFL Super Bowl

It's more the unrestricted free agency of the transfer portal..
It’s both equally - how successful will a school be with the portal without NIL $$ to back it up???
Schools like Oregon, USC, Notre Dame and Texas will wind up becoming the major powers with very little competition under the system that is developing
SEC schools will still be in the mix, but will no longer be able to distance themselves from schools with enough money & desire to compete (that’s probably a good thing)
We will likely see money caps much like the NFL salary caps in the near future
I’d also like to see something like a “2 year rule”, where student athletes (is this term even applicable anymore?) cannot leave a school for 2 years without sitting out a year
This could pass muster based on contract laws (non compete agreements can be enforced in certain situations)
I really hate the direction that college ball is headed…

South has always been the poorest area of the country. NIL has given the B1G, ACC and PAC teams a leg up because they are in wealthier more industrial areas of the country
Then why are all of the mega churches born in the South? and the best children's hospitals too. It's not how much you have, it's how much you give, and over the years the North and West haven proven they're not really willing to give.

Why y’all refuse to say the SEC is down is hilarious to me.
For other conferences to rise, 1 of 2 things has to happen. Either:
1. The talent pool from across the country has gotten significantly better
2. The SEC is down
We’re down. It’s okay. We’ll survive

To me it’s more likely that the NFL simply drops their 3 year post high school requirement and becomes more like the NBA. And then what?
I admit that I’m a pessimistic person by nature, but I think we are right now entering the nadir of our beloved college football as we’ve known it. Think about what we’re seeing right now:
- The NCAA is willing itself out of existence as they are struggling to win lawsuits.
- Coaches - even unproven coaches - are being given contracts worth tens of millions. Just stupid money is being thrown around at this point.
- The price tag of tv contracts mandated rules changes in the sport which allow for more in-game commercials. Yes, they changed the clock rules in order to squeeze in more commercials during a 3.5 hour broadcast.
- Conference realignment is killing rivalries which have been the bread and butter of college sports forever.
- We’re playoff obsessed, with additions of playoff rounds making Saturdays less significant one playoff game at a time.
And by all means, let’s continue allowing the media to tell us all about how great Deion Sanders and Colorado is for the sport. It’s not great for the sport. It is exhibit A of how the sport we love is being killed.

Before NIL every recruit knew if you wanted to make it to the NFL you played in the SEC even if it was at State or Vandy. Now the talent is spread more evenly.

I think the economy affects it. People still want to buy that new hoodie to support the team, but they can't buy it and then send money to a collective.

BCS picked #1 and #2, SEC dominated
CFP picks #1, #2, #3, and #4, deals the B1G back in (at least Ohio State)
CFP+ picks 12, deals non SEC schools back in
Not sure it is NIL as much as the also rans have landed a seat at the table.

Arkansas wasn’t cheating, or at least if we were we suck at it. Cheating is the only reason the top programs are the top programs.

NIL leveled the playing field. That's all there is to it.
