Correct. The big brass met last night, and it was obvious it was a misfire and wouldn’t work.

Why wouldn't he? He can make millions, go 7-5 or 8-4 annually and be celebrated at KY. He would be a fool to leave

So the Aggies are too good for Stoops?

Or too dysfunctional.

These folks want too much

They want a coach who:
1. Is a sure thing (Impossible)
2. Is a big name
3. Wants to be there (which probably means leaving a better program or much less stressful job)
4. Has the ability to take firm control of a difficult program
5. Will follow their wishes

Essentially, they want what they've already partially paid for. Problem is there isn't a coach alive who's worth $150-200 million.

They want Nick Saban, if Nick Saban was still the young guy at Michigan State. They'd pay any price to get that guy.

But that guy doesn't exist anymore. That's the big, big problem for A&M. And a bunch of other programs.

They wouldn't look at young Saban for more than a second. That guy had never won a conference, never even won 10 games in a season, was not a big name, and he wasn't a sure thing.

If the guys with veto power aren't even in the fricking interview, how the hell can they see the promise of an unknown newcomer?

The one thing this process can never produce is the next Nick Saban.

Honestly, if I were ya'll I'd just run with the narrative that he turned you down. It's much less embarrassing than admitting that your administration and boosters are this dysfunctional.

That is a damn good point.

You know, 'Bama swung and missed more than once before they hooked Saban. But they had the courage to swing. They knew the standard they wanted, and kept at it until they got it.

That is a really, really important point in this. Well stated.

I'd take $7m and full control over $9m and having to bend the knee to rich, armchair QBs who take zero blame when things go wrong.

It's like marrying a chick with bad kids. You don't have the power to spank the shite out them, but when they stab a kid with a fork folks look at you like you're a bad parent.
