State fans, is Leach running his usual offense?

There is a reason you typically dont ever see air raid offense in the SEC.

You frick around and throw an interception, SEC teams can usually capitalize. I dont expect to blow the doors off that squad, but I do expect something like 2018.

Coach O has never been one for coach speak, he tells it like it is. Apparently our defense is very stout.

Yes, that's why we hired him.

We'll give it a few years and see if it is successful. I am cautiously optimistic. It's an interesting experiment to say the least.

I certainly hope so, and I'm sure there will be struggles, but I think many people think the air raid is less adaptable than it really is.

When he has a talented RB, he'll throw lots of shovels and screens. When he has more talent on the outside, his attack is more vertical.

Yeah I love the Leach hire. He will completely move away from State’s reputation built under Mullen as a ball control team that plays stout D.

I mean, one of his middling Washington State team almost beat SEC champion Auburn and he just lost by a field goal to Alabama while at Texas Tech.

Obviously if there are turnovers then there will be problems, but isn't that the same in any offense? Like if a running team fumbles the ball then an SEC team can usually capitalize, so I don't see what makes the Air Raid any different?

That's a ridiculous statement. LSU ran a variant of the air raid last year.

LSU ran 90% of Leach's Air Raid last year.

State is going to gain yards and score points and fail to stop people. It will be exciting. They'll lose to the big boys this year, but at some point, they will pick someone off.

The question you should be asking is actually: "Is LSU a big boy this year?"

This. Points are points and Leach always has his team score a lot of them. Now, the defense, we’ll see what Arnett does.

I hope I am pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding my breath this year

Not enough depth in the secondary for me to even begin to be comfortable

If it is the first game of the season against a team that lost a lot of starters from the previous year, I'd say its a good time to see what happens.

We saw Leach back in the Big 12...he can score on anybody. In 2016 he hung 59 points on #6 Oklahoma..and got beat by a late touchdown. If a team has any weakness in the LB/DB area..it will be a long afternoon for someone. People in the SEC, especially LSU, aren’t paying attention. Leach has a veteran transfer QB with a career 62.5% passing completion rate. Leach’s air raid offense doesn’t require NFL quality receivers, just an accurate QB. Just like LSU last year with Burrow’s.

The difference is time of possession and how much easier it is to turn the ball over with a freshman or inexperienced qb. With a good qb it is almost unstoppable until the red zone where it becomes much more difficult to create space.

He can compete but that was a Shula lead Alabama team not really comparable to a saban lead Alabama.

lol no they didn't. Not all pass heavy offenses are air raid and Leach runs one of the simpler air raids out there.

One thing you can be certain of about Leach is that no matter where he is or who he plays, he will run his system to answer OP's question.

Your defense looks stout because you lost the best college quarterback ever, The OC, nearly the entire Ol, and the best WR in the draft. You were average by LSU standards on defense last year and lost a shite ton off of that defense with the draft and opt outs. Leach is running his offense and will score on LSU. Our defense is going to be trash and LSU will score a bunch on us. It will be a 38-28 type game with LSU scoring late to ice it IMO.

Leach can flat out coach. So, with MSU having a very good RB I expect him to run the ball more than a lot of people think he will.

If leach can coach how many pac 12 titles did he win? He averaged 6 to 7 loses in his time at Washington state
