Glad to see he’s learned from his past transgressions and immaturity (UTk). He’s carved out quite a name for himself and continue to build a winner at Oxford

My prediction is Lane Kiffin will be coaching in the SEC next year.

I'd be surprised if Kiffin left. He's in a low pressure job with sufficient resources to be competitive, and there are a ton of good looking young blondes in Oxford.

At the risk of pissing off the blue bloods, and noting that Lane may well leave, I think the SEC is becoming the NFL in that once you get a SEC HC job you stick where your at and just try to get better resources out of your current employer.

I think it mostly depends on how deep into the playoffs ole miss goes. If they get bounced early, he has enough time to go to a new team and still save their recruiting class. The deeper they go, the harder it will be for him to put together a recruiting class at his new school. And you gotta think these teams currently without a coach are going to lose a ton of players to the portal. Whoever ends up at LSU, Florida, etc will have a ton of work to do in December and January saving a roster for next season.

My guess is Lane will see how far he can go with this Ole Miss team and that may have some bearing on if he believes he can win it all at Ole Miss.

If they faced Ohio State or A&M and were soundly beaten, he may start to wonder if he can assemble enough talent at Ole Miss to get to the next level. He may think he's taken Ole Miss as far as he can. It's hard for me to see him being satisfied with that, but there's also a strong case for having a good job for life in a really nice town.

Hard to see PSU poaching the Vandy coach two times in a row, especially considering they just fired the last one they poached.

The Florida game was on Dart. Probably the worst quarter he’s played in his life.

I love how everyone knows what Lane is going to do, thinks this is what Lane should do, etc etc… I look forward to the day for the guy to actually make up his own decision instead of having all of us idiots try to guess. This writer knows jack just like everyone else.

A solid team, but not at the level of Ohio State. A lot of talent, but not as much talent. You need to go at least two deep and maybe three deep at a lot of key positions.

Ohio State or A&M

One is not like the other.

Beating A&M is a regular occurrence for most SEC teams. They put together a good squad this year, like Ole Miss has.

Texas will be favored to beat the Aggies.

Our defenses were basically identical (#1 and #2 in the country in all major stats) and we had a more talented QB. Not saying we would have for sure won, but it should have been a very competitive game.

Yeah, I agree.

Lane is high up on my list of coaches.

BUT I just can't get over his daughter being a student at Ole Miss. Knowing college fans: they are going to hate Lane if he leaves Ole Miss. That would leave the daughter in a very awkward situation if she chose to remain at the school.

I'm not saying she couldn't get over it. It's just one thing I think about with all this. LSU fans hated Nick Saban sooooo much for going to Bama, and I could only imagine that being magnified.

Personally, I don’t think the Rebels bombing out early will factor much into whether he stays or goes outside of knowing he’ll have more time to recruit if he does make a move. Ole Miss lost 20 players to the NFL and had an 18-year-old QB with almost no snaps and a D2 QB that was a question mark to start the year. The fans and probably even the staff thought this was a 9-win ceiling team from the jump. He recruited and planned for this to be a rebuild year and to come out swinging with a more experienced QB next year. It’ll come down to resources offered to him by his suitors and if he wants to gamble and make a jump. If we can go deep, then of course he’ll be more incentivized to stay for a number of reasons, but losing won’t be a big deal.

This makes sense if you don't know anything about this team.

This is not the "if it can't be done this year, it can't be done" year.

This is the "oh, wow, you can now make noise at Ole Miss even in a down year" year.

We deliberately kept our NIL powder dry this year to try to make a run again next year once Simmons had some experience under his belt, and then somehow put ourselves on the cusp of making the playoffs without the major investments like we made last year and will make again next year.
