whole Football fiasco

The search itself wasn't a fiasco. The reporting on it was a fiasco.

Ray Tanner clearly was going after the right people for football. Herman (now HC at Texas), Smart (now HC at Georgia), Riley (now HC at Oklahoma), Taggert (now HC at Oregon). The only stupid move on Tanner's part was being used by RichRod.

From what was reported internally, while we did have interest in Monte, he was never actually offered anything.

Really underwhelming hire, has made the NCAAT 3 times, but never advanced to supers. 2-6 in the NCAAT.

At Illinois State and South Florida.

The coach who just finished his 21st season at Coastal, his alma mater, and is like 60 years old? Because I'm sure that would have been an easy guy to hire away.

Could have been much worse. Not a bad hire.

It's really not. It's not a huge hire, but I'm excited to see what he can do.

Can't be worse than Holbrook right?

South Carolina baseball to hire USF's Mark Kingston

Should have hired Tony Vitello, but glad USC-E didn't. Much harder to succeed at Tennessee than USC-E, in baseball.

I think its a quality hire.

USF beat UF 15-10 & FSU 2-1 this year.

They also lost to the Gators 5-1 in 12 during the Regionals....I was glad and surprised they didnt make it through to play UF again.

They were 42-19.

Should have hired Tony Vitello,
Tanner wasn't gonna choose a second consecutive candidate without any HC experience to lead Gamecock Baseball.

Holbrook had every bit the buzz of Vitello as a hot-shot assistant/recruiter, if not more. Holbrook also turned down Tennessee after they ran Delmonico out.

It is a great hire. He is a great coach and his teams overachieved. He is also familiar with the SEC east especially Florida, and he has Florida recruiting ties. USCe fans ought to be excited. You were never going to get Florida's coach, so don't let media BS give you a reason to not like this hire.

So how is USCe a better spot than Florida again?

It's not except for one thing. The Gators are big time overall. Only a few years back, they had the best overall sports program since UCLA back in the 1960-70s.

But y'all need to spend some serious coin to update some facilities.

One question and certainly no flame. Did Florida baseball make money this year?

No, there are two. The fan base in not as interested now as Alabama's. Gradually, y'all have forgotten Steve, Urban and Billy.

I liked it when the Gators could pencil in LSU as a win in almost anything.

Not the same anymore. And UF ball was exciting, fun to watch. Hell, the class of the SEC. To tolerate anything less means you are dropping.

I see people shitting on Kingston here. I think he'll do a good job. Complaining that he hasn't won a Regional in 7 years as a head coach is funny. Go take a look and see how many years it took Mainieri to finally win a Regional.

FTR He did as good a job if not a better job recruiting at Tulane than Jim Schlossnagle did.
He also brought a near top 10 recruiting class into USF. Not exactly an easy thing to do.

I agree. Same with this hire. I have no issue with this guy as our coach at all. What is mind boggling is the # Of peole we have reporting on our athletics with nothing to talk about but this for like a month and this guys name isn't mentioned once other than the day he was already in cola for the interview? Wtf have you been doing? Click baiting like a boss.
