Nobody thought it would be Sully once the Gators got to the finals. Very few actually believed it before that even.

But I imagine this thread will be filled with "I told you so"s anyways

Show me one post where I said Sully was coming here

I can show you a few where I said it was highly unlikely.

GO!

This could be a great hire or it could be a bad hire. I thought a top 5 program was willing to spend the big bucks to get a proven coach. Either Ray Tanner has limited finances or he isnt a very good AD. Firing Holbrook and hiring someone who isn't proven doesn't make much sense. He could be good but SC is a top 5 program. Who I thought should be able to get nearly anyone

South Carolina's BOT approves Kingston's contract. Contract is for 6 years and salary is around $600,000. He was making $140,000 at USF. I'm all about giving the guy a chance but I think the contract is too much considering Kingston really hasn't proved a lot as a head coach.

Solid analysis.

The WF colors look good on you though.

he's done more than our fanbase has given him credit for. If we didn't have the media click baiting our arse and we actually knew Kingston was in the running b4 hand there wouldn't be as much pushback.

Looking at his coaching records....he has done a pretty decent job at Illinois State and USF. I don't know a whole lot about him so I can't sit here and say he will be great for South Carolina or not. However, if you looking at it through the eye test....6 years at $600,000 a year is a lot for a guy that has never coached a great baseball program. Like I said, I'm willing to give him a shot and hopefully the fanbase will get on board and do the same. Hopefully he will lead us back to the CWS and get us back to where we were before Chad.

That's my one qualm as well. Why not pay him what we paid Chad and include performance incentives for him and his staff?

Because Holbrook didn't have head coaching experience. Mark Kingston is a rising star in college baseball. If someone thinks this isn't a good hire, I have to question their college baseball knowledge. What he's done at usf is very impressive given their history and resources.

It easy to get an assistant to be a HC pay them whatever and they will take it. This guy has HC experience and had already turned down VT's offer.
