You've played each other 55 times since 1958. That's the 2nd most games vs an opponent over that period for South Carolina (60 vs Clemson) and the 6th most for Georgia (61 vs Auburn, 60 vs Tech/Florida/Kentucky, 58 vs Vandy).

Georgia is the only team from the SEC that South Carolina has any pre-SEC history with.

Pre-1992 Games vs
1. Georgia (39 games)
2. LSU (13 games)
3. Florida (12 games)
4. Tennessee (10 games)
5. Ole Miss (9 games)

I know that a lot of Georgia people I talk to who are older consider Clemson more of an old rival than Carolina, and then of course Tech/Florida/Auburn ahead of them as well.

What is the general feeling among both fan bases?

Meh, outside of our main 3 (UF, AU, GT), there's a lot of teams that you call "rivals" of ours.

The tiers go:

Main rivals: Florida, Auburn, Tech
Mini rivals: Carolina, Tennessee
Would be rivals if we played more: Clemson

I have always liked the tradition starting SEC play with the UGA-USC game. I hope they continue it.

Rivals? No, but we share a border and many fans of each school grew up in the other state, and with divided houses.

I think it's pretty clear that we really don't like each other, though.

Most USC fans consider UGA our second biggest rival. It's not close to Clemson, but it's #2 for a lot of people.

No. Kentucky and Vandy are not rivals either.

And yes, Clemson is more of a rival than south carolina, vandy, and kentucky.

No.

It got heated when Spurrier went there because of our rivalry with Florida, but other than that, no, they are just a garden-variety conference foe.

Carolina fans will tell you otherwise.

Is it considered a rivalry when you're 50-18-2 over a certain un-named opponent?

South Carolina (18-50-2 vs UGA) is a rival kinda like Georgia Tech is a rival. You concern yourself with them the week of the game, but you don't think about them all season like you do with Florida and Auburn.
They're more of an annoyance than a rival.

I put USCe and Tech in the same category. They’re not really our rival, but we’re theirs. USCe is just another game on our schedule, but it’s their playoff game because they’ll never make it to the playoffs.

Auburn hates UGA
UF hates UGA
UT hates UGA
GT hates UGA
South Carolina hates UGA
Clemson used to hate UGA (when they played)

When that many fanbases hate you, it's because you're dealing with a group of unmitigated asshats.

I don't consider Georgia a rival. Clemson will always be our only true rival. I view Georgia the same way that I do Florida and Tennessee.

This with a couple of minor changes. I have heard the rare Gamecock say UGA is number one, these are always fan that live in GA though.

There are a small fraction of fans that would put UNC #2. These are always people living in NC and have to deal with that wine and cheese crap everyday.

How Georgia fans view/hate our common opponents tends to rank order based on two factors:

1. Where did the fan grow up and where do they live?
2. How old is the fan?

For instance, ask Dawgs who live in the north Georgia mountains who is the most hated of our rivals, and they will tell you Tennessee. This is magnified if that person was actively following the team during the Fulmer years.

For Dawg fans who grew up or live in/around Augusta, South Carolina is considered a rival and may even be the most hated due to proximity alone. Same is true for west GA baws and Auburn, south GA baws and Florida, and Asian baws with Georgia Tech.
