why is that?
I look at him and I see "solid". I don't see "special". Teams usually don't draft solid defensive guys in the first round.

The measurable at the combine will tell the tale and if he doesn't wow them there that's what the result will be.

a lot of these measurables already exist, and he's probably the most athletic LB i've seen at LSU. That includes the likes of Highsmith, Sheppard, Minter, Beckwith and others.

you either don't have an eye for talent or simply haven't watched enough/as closely as you think you have. Probably a bit of both, TBH.

Yep. I don't think he's 1st round material, but he'll go early in the 2nd if anyone needs a LB

Does not really matter for this upcoming draft. Devin White is a true sophomore , if memory serves. So SEC teams will be terrorized by him for another year.

Honestly, he's my favorite player in the SEC , that doesn't wear a Razorback uniform. I wanted him to be a Hog so bad. He'll be great on Sundays.

SDH- 34 Tackles 3 sacks 1 PD 0 INT 1 FF

More like

White

Smith

SDH

Smith and SDH have significantly better teams around them which often leads to less tackles.

Smith has been as good as any UGA LB I've ever seen this year.

Devin is on pace for 143 tackles and 5 sacks in his sophomore season.

He may not keep pace on sacks, since that stat can get cold, though I also wouldn't be surprised if he met or even exceeded it due to one monster game. But with a player like him, he will come close to meeting the pace on tackles. He's everywhere on the field, and you typically get what you've gotten out of a monster like him (barring injuries), unlike say a RB that is one bad or a couple mediocre games away from under-performing relative to the mid-season pace. He gets 10 tackles like it's nothing, just a normal day. He'll get a few more 15 tackle games.

He's certainly the leader for AA accolades, and likely some individual awards. Great player.

ALA 204 Rush Attempts against Defense (435 total)
UGA 205 Rush Attempts against Defense (423 total)
LSU 240 Rush Attempts against Defense (444 total)

When you have 20% more attempts and lack the depth of UGA and Bama, tackles lose a little of their luster when trying to compare apples to apples. Would also be interested in snaps defended considering the depth of UGA and Bama.

Either way, all three are studs.

Use whatever excuse you want. Devin is much better than both of them.

Linebackers can tackle pass catchers too.

Also, when he has 50-100+% more tackles, your attempts figures sort of play into that.

For starters, he's 6'1" and 255 pounds, but he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds at The Opening. He also was one of the strongest participants at the event, throwing the power ball 44 feet. Only three players threw it further. And then there's White's athleticism: He showed his leaping ability with a 37.9-inch vertical in Oregon.

Here's what he looked like at the opening:

Here he is now.

If that's not special, then show me what is.

Yep. He really needs to wow at the combine to get his name out there.

Congrats. You're the only person on this board who don't know who the best defensive player in the SEC is. I'm sure that'll do wonders for your credibility.

I'm not even saying anything bad about him. I haven't watched enough of LSU to judge either way. I'm just saying that total tackles isn't always a great indicator.

That's correct. He is a good player, no doubt about it but there is a ton of variables.

Exactly... I love the shifting goalposts arguments of all fanbases here... total [insert statistic] isn't as valid as [insert statistic]/ [per some relative variable]... until that metric makes a player from my team better, then it is of course the best metric at evaluating success. Never change tRant... never change.
