I'm not even saying anything bad about him. I haven't watched enough of LSU to judge either way. I'm just saying that total tackles isn't always a great indicator.

Total tackles by a middle linebacker isn't a good indicator? Come on man.

I've watched a few UGA games. Smith is very good. Y'all have a better defense. Hell you can make an argument that Zo Carter is better than Key this year and '17 Chubb is better than '17 Guice, for sure. I believe Smith is a 1st round talent.

With that said Devin White is as dominant at MLB as I have ever seen.

LSU's talent on D is no slouch. Here's a list of cats that will play on sundays, not going to include any freshman.

Frank Herron
Rashard Lawrence
Arden Key
Ed Alexander
Kevin Toliver
Geeedy Williams
Donte Jackson

Shifting goal post?

Y'all seriously think total tackles by a middle linebacker isn't a good indicator? Give me a reason that Smith is better than White, besides the fact that he plays for your team.

Ramik Wilson had 133 tackles in 2013 and was only OK.

I actually can't imagine how a college LB could have played better in UGA's system than Smith has this year. I can't think of one time where I've thought "Smith should have made that play."

Again man- he's been very good but I've actually watched both teams in muliple games. Smith is literally always in the right position, he's a stud. I've also seen Devin White run down guys he wasn't even covering and make a tackle 20 yards away from him.

I have no problem saying Smith is the 2nd best LBer in the country. But I know who the best is...

That's exactly the problem with looking at total tackles though. How many opportunities have Smith or SDH had to run people down? When you're only giving up 50 or so rushing yards in a game, you only see so many extended plays that get beyond the line of scrimmage or outside the tackles.

Ok man. Tackles don't matter. Do me a favor and go watch a couple of LSU games. Y'all are arguing about a player that you haven't even seen play.

Me too lol. Think he'd be a damn good RB if he wasn't a LB.

I'm not even arguing about a player. I'm arguing about the usefulness of a stat.

He’s a dominant athlete at the LB position with his size/speed combo. There are times when he can be over aggressive and put himself out of position but he’s been nothing short of fantastic stepping into that role this year.

Cool. Tackles don't matter. Tackles are no indicator of how good linebackers are.

Also Devin >>> Smith

And it ain't close.

Or heard of until 1 or 2 days ago

So I looked at his stats, dude only has 21 solo tackles on the season.

Maybe if you talked with more people, not just yourself, then you would know who he is. Also you have double digit post about 1 guy and you still don't know who he is?

Still can't believe you made a profile and had a conversation with yourself. Im glad Bamas good at football. Clearly you don't have shite else going for you.

Well don't get mad.
Sorry I had never heard of this 21 solo tackle phenomenon until yesterday. Now I know who he is.

More like

White

Smith

SDH

So you are going solely by the number of tackles?

I can't say for sure if this happened to 40 or not, but it can be easy to mistake the number 48 for 40 in the scrum sometimes. And there's no doubt that 48 seems to make more bad plays on D than the other 10 combined.

He definitely had a bad first quarter, but he is the most electric defensive player at LSU since Mathieu. And that's the highest compliment I can give a player.
