Tennessee’s football coaching search officially got underway with Sunday’s firing of Butch Jones.
The Vols (4-6, 0-6 Southeastern Conference) lost for the sixth time in eight games with Saturday night’s 50-17 loss at Missouri. First-year Tennessee athletic director John Currie announced the firing Sunday afternoon a little before 2 Eastern, with a press conference scheduled for 5.

Here’s what we’re hearing about Tennessee’s coaching search so far:
Multiple sitting Power 5 head coaches have expressed interest in the Vols’ vacancy.
Most notably, according to sources that spoke with GoVols247, have been Mississippi State’s Dan Mullenand Oregon’s Willie Taggart.
It’s also understood that multiple highly respected Power 5 assistants have shown interest in the job. Sources have also hinted that there could be a current NFL coach who would listen if Tennessee called, though that name has not yet been disclosed.
Though it officially got underway on Sunday, Tennessee’s search has been active for over a month now, and the coaching community has been treating this job as an open one for at least that long.
According to a source, Currie began vetting Central Florida head coach Scott Frost while his UCF team played at Cincinnati on Oct. 7, the same weekend Tennessee had its bye week.
Frost, one of the hottest coaching names in college football right now, has UCF undefeated at 9-0. The Golden Knights were 0-12 in 2015, the year before Frost arrived in Orlando. It’s been widely reported that Frost is also near the top of Florida’s wish list.
Mullen, the second longest tenured head coach in the SEC, makes $4.5 million per year at Mississippi State, where he is 68-45 since taking over in 2009. His buyout has not been disclosed.
Taggart, making $2.9 million in his first season as head coach at Oregon, has the Ducks 5-5 through 10 games.
Taggart spent four seasons at South Florida (2013-16), going 24-25, including an 11-2 record last season. He was at Western Kentucky for three seasons (2010-12), with a 17-20 record.

I have no idea if Mullen is interested or not...but you do realize sitting coaches use these openings all the time to milk a raise out of their schools don't you?

Thats a horrible researched article by a fan site.

Mullen's buyout is well documented. Its $0, just like Saban's.

Tennessee just isn’t that great. Read what you just posted, then ask yourself if you’d jump into a dumpster fire program that fires it’s coach mid season.

Merlins is irrelevant. A third or fourth tier option if we whiff on King Jon or Frost per back channels

I have no real analysis to offer concerning the possibility of Mullen considering an offer from UT.. but he does have incredible job security at MSST. Hell, last night's game against Bama probably bought him at least another 5 years. He could sit on this job until he retires. I don't know about Mullen, but that would be hard for me to leave behind.

Sounds like peeps fishing for raises.

Gawd taggart would be no different than keeping jones at this point. I guess it would be the "minority" name to throw around for affirmative action reasons. Like why strong's name has popped up for uf

All things considered, Mississippi State is a better job than Tennessee for Mullen.

I say a midwestern guy that can recruit to the north and south. Eastern seaboard is kind of locked up now. It wasn't like that in the 90's.
