Absolutely did not hire Gus based on his reputation as the brainchild behind the 2010 season; which included the epic win over Bama.
Wouldn't say absolutely, but Jacobs hired him because he recruited most of the offensive players on the staff before he left for Arkansas State. He also fit the bill because he was a former Auburn guy like Chizik.
Or do you really believe he was hired because he was 1-2 vs. Saban as an OC?

He is waiting for a bigger fish. Napier did this at ULL for 2 years.
My predictions are #1- A$M and 2- Bama or 3- UGA if Smart bolts for the NFL (Unlikely)

He realizes that LSU, A&M and Auburn will be better in the near future. He realizes he is at Ole Miss and if those programs improve, Ole Miss will fall in the pecking order. Then he will not be the hot coach he is today. He knows he has to take advantage of that this year.

You think y’all are going to pay Kiffin $15 million a year?

And we can counter with a high buyout.

Lane is that type that is not worried about a buyout at this point in his career. Older coaches know it can be their retirement fund if things do not work long-term. Lane is the type that thinks a two-way buyout is a detriment to his career when bigger opportunities happen when he is successful.

As long as Del Conte is running things at UT, the best you are going to get is 7 Win Sark.

quote:Agreed, Freeze would fit perfectly at Auburn. He'd bring the long needed QB coaching AU hasn't had in +5 yrs and he'd get that defense whipped into SEC shape.
I prefer Freeze also. He would be the perfect longterm fit for AU.
I don't understand why y'all haven't already sealed a deal with him, he'd take the job in a heartbeat.

Because many know that Kiffin would work hard and bring AU to the top as quick as anyone in the game right now. My issue with him is that he would always have his head on a swivel, and we would have to go through this after he reaches success. Freeze would be long-term and that is what I prefer. Truth is even with Kiffin's success and then his moving on afterwards, it would be very good for AU. I don't think many at Bama thought Saban would stay past his first contract.

Given Cohens hire history I doubt he’s the guy.
That being said, he won’t turn them down. CFB has changed, and there hasn’t been much talk about how much NIL and the portal impact HC decisions but it’s massive. Talent will flow toward NIL money and, while that’s true for mid tier schools as well, tier 1 coaches won’t have to fight the merry go round of struggling to retain your top talent and identifying undervalued players in the portal. It’s just a massively easier job at a blue blood, less stress, and more potential. And that isn’t even getting into recruiting, the days of getting a top recruit to play at a smaller program are all but gone.

I guess Miss St is the 2nd tier and smaller school. Jackson St got the number 1 recruit in the country.

quote:Not to mention he would be cheaper than Kiffin. Something about Kiffin has the ones wanting him blocking out the entire picture and just see his wins and nothing else in the world. They ignore the other options and attack them like rabid dogs at their mention. They ignore he can't win the big games or produce a defense.
I don't understand why y'all haven't already sealed a deal with him, he'd take the job in a heartbeat.
They obviously don't understand talent isn't going to change his coaching and by just saying there's more talent at Auburn is saying they think that will fix all his coaching problems.

CDC didnt even want 7 win Sark. He wanted Sonny Dykes. Sark was the boosters' choice. Kiffin will be the boosters' choice again. Boosters get they want.

haha you know Lane??? Add a couple clauses here and there and a contract can read however you want it. Plenty of ways to get around the ridiculous 4 year rule

Basically you can take what Irons Puppet says with 100%, rock solid certainty.
And then turn it around 180 degrees and bank on THAT happening. He has a stellar reputation when it comes to determining exactly what won't happen.
And as a fan on the outside of this Kiffin and OM/Auburn debate looking in, I see a lot of Auburn posters ITT wishcasting and trying to make it seem like they have some "inside information" or connections...
when any of us that have been through a coaching search know that those posting "inside info" on a message board or acting like they have an insight into that coach's thoughts are always 100% full of shite.
There's been several posts ITT from Auburn fans acting like they know Kiffin and his inner thoughts personally
This guy knows Lane and how he thinks!
quote:
Offer has been made. He is mulling it over. As he does Auburn continues to interview and reach out. If he turns it down it will not be because of Auburn and the misinformation about the boosters.
Irons Puppet ALSO knows Lane Kiffin and his inner thoughts! Maybe y'all know each other and don't realize it, since both of you Auburn fans have honest and open relationships with the Ole Miss head coach to the point where he shares his thoughts on taking other SEC coaching jobs with you?
