Lack of evidence and witnesses I’m assuming is what’s preventing the charges from rising to the level of vehicular manslaughter
Not even sure it matters. Didn’t Dany Heatley get a vehicular manslaughter charge? Pretty sure he only got 3 years probation for his.

You are questioning the choices of someone who was drunk.
There should have been a DD.
Unfortunately, these lessons are learned over and over at funerals and wakes.

Bama fans and Nate Oats are breathing the biggest sigh of relief right now.

Heatley was the driver of the car with fatality.
The lenient sentence was at the request of the deceased's family.

Snyder was a passenger in the car Heatley crashed. Carter was in a separate car alleged to have been racing the vehicle that crashed - much harder to prove causation for the deaths even though assumptions can be drawn

This story is definitely about to blow up though. I felt like it was under the radar all along but now the spotlight of potentially the top pick will have people talking about this.

If he WAS at the scene of the crash, how about human decency to stay and check on your teammates???
Sounds like he left after he checked on his teammates.

But to what end? Are you hoping that Kirby was operating an illegal street racing enterprise that the lid is about to be blown off of?
2 people have been dead for almost 2 months now. A star former player is now going to be charged with misdemeanors and his reputation has taken a deserved hit. What more are you thinking will happen?

So he checked on his teammates and found that they were injured and dead. Fled the scene before emergency personnel got there. And then lied to police.
Didn't the girl die at the hospital? Which means he left her there. Am I correct?

I don’t give a crap about Kirby or UGA football. But Jalen Carter being at the scene and leaving before medical personnel, then going on to be drafted top 10 would be messed up.

To my understanding, weren’t one of the vehicles involved owned by the University of Georgia? Is that not an issue?

My following comments will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that I’m just an old person complaining about young people. It’s 2023 not 1950: we should all know better than to be out driving at high speed after drinking; everybody should know hazing is a no no; everybody should know that delivering a gun after a night out isn’t going to work out well. What aren’t we teaching our kids? How is this still happening after so many examples of how this goes bad real fast. It just really gets to me to see all these young people with great futures throw it all away for dumb stupid stuff.

Sounds like some of the defensive starters from last season had a propensity for driving way too fast. Unfortunately, a teammate and staffer lost their lives due to similar mistakes so hopefully they’re able to learn from that extremely painful lesson.
i am curious of your opinion on Brandon Miller's status.

It was a rental vehicle, not owned. UGA has a stated policy against using those rentals beyond their purpose and Lecroy was in violation of that policy. Question that remains is whether or not that policy was routinely enforced prior to night of the accident but likely that only gets spoken to if litigation goes to court. If I had to guess, UGA will do everything they can to settle and make this go away as quietly as they can.

Wait so that arguement doesn't work when it is someone on another team? I'm just using the Brandon Miller defense. What gives?
I’m not sure what Brandon Miller has to do with this. I guess you’re trying to deflect. I’m not criticizing UGA but just stating that’s messed up what Jalen Carter did.

That stretch of road is pretty much a straight shot to Barnett Shoals. So the part in the original AJC story about navigating a left hand turn was significantly embellished at best.
That's all well and good but I live in an area where I have to drive on unlit backroad highways with long stretches of straight shots with a lot of deer around. No chance I'm driving 80+ (or 100+ if the previous poster was right about the speed of the other vehicle) at night on those roads. That's just stupid, reckless, and dangerous. I've had to slam on my brakes enough times to avoid hitting deer driving 55-60 on those roads. Driving as fast as he allegedly was is just playing with fire at night.

Hmm...sounds like he straight up lied to the police. That'll play well I'm sure.
It is pretty obvious he did indeed lie to the cops which may well be more serious a crime than either that he is charged with. Its a bad look for UGA and one they best get on top of. At the very least there is an alcohol problem and a driving problem in the football program, regardless of the truth that is now the perception, and they best get on top of it publicly and right fast.
UGA has ALWAYS had a problem with athletes and their driving....not too long ago a heaping pile of football players were riding mopeds regularly on sidewalks, riding mopeds with no license, operating vehicles with no license....it happened at least a couple of times a year. It was more than just kids doing stupid shite it was, for whatever reason, cultural at UGA. Seems like it still is but has advanced now to racing and wreckless driving. Smart better get on top of it or he will not be able to win enough natty's to keep Mama's quite about their babies being endangered. I think Smart has the character to do the right thing and he is going to have ample opportunity to prove he does.
