It sucks when someone else starts doing shite to stay competitive, huh?

To be clear, if "doing shite to stay competitive" is the lynchpin that brings down the entire sport we've all followed for decades, because one random team in Louisiana can't win a football game, then yes, that does indeed suck.

Okay so I know what’s going on here. First off, $100m is too low for a stake in LSU. So the LSU admin got desperate because of all the active contracts (BK) and NIL and overextended itself.

Still worth it to grab Kiffin. Truck nuts on baws in parking lots that cost even more.

Starting down a road that converts donors who currently give you money for free into shareholders that you have to pay off still seems like lunacy

I doubt this story is true. No program is this desperate or stupid enough to sign that kind of deal.

So just wait a bit until this story gets debunked.

I agree. This has to be fake. No way LSU would do this.

Revenue will grow, sure, but to assume expenses will stay flat is bananas. This would only let them compete for the next two or three years. They will be at a massive disadvantage going forward.

I think is it just fake rumors. Has to be.

Yahoo Sports: LSU Closes $100 Million Deal

quote:

According to Ball, the intent of Monday night's meeting was to discuss the reported private equity deal and inspire further investment, even though "most of those donors are unaware the private equity transaction has already occurred," per Ball. But Southern Regional Medical Center president Charles Harvey, among the LSU donors in attendance, told LouisianaSports.net that the tone of the meeting changed after LSU officials explained the deal was not done and wasn't what was originally described.

“Hey guys, new plan. We are just gonna rob another hospital. Less paperwork that way.”

quote:

LSU is also reportedly considering additional revenue moves that "could include selling targeted annual revenue streams — such as merchandising — to outside investors," according to Ball, who added his source revealed the team's ticket revenue is "off the table" due to potential "concerns that outside control could lead to escalating prices for fans." The private equity deal reportedly includes no Tiger Athletic Foundation priority points, parking passes or any other traditional donor perks, per D1.tcket, and is purely a financial investment for donors.

Joe Burreaux jerseys are about to cost $400 and corndogs and cokes will be $20 each.

That article is based on the same rumor that this thread was started on, which multiple LSU sources have now debunked.

It has new information from people who attended the governor’s meeting last night. And the info on selling merchandising rights is a new idea.

Sorry for your loss.

Shareholders can lose money too so if boosters become "investors" then they can get away with contributing more without expecting a monetary return. Think of it as the pre-NIL athletes who got paid by boosters for a job they never showed up for.

Being able to hypothetically go the VC route actually implies the opposite of “being poor AF”. VC implies confidence in the current model of LSU athletics.

Try again!

I assure you that whatever was discussed would have been in the Baton Rouge or NOLA media before yahoo. The kind of men who are invited to those meetings are pretty good at playing it close to the vest.
You know nothing.

Again, all of the morons salivating over the thought that LSU is in dire straits, can put that crap to bed. Every major program or conference is looking at ways to fund their athletics. The hit to everyone's budget from losing 20% of media rights to player compensation, escalating labor (player) costs, etc. I believe it was Saban himself who cried to his donors that he needed more to pay players and that was before the House Settlement was finalized. It's why he said "enough" and rode off into the sunset. Now he gets to see DeBoer twist in the wind.

That’s not remotely close what this would be like. Wherever you went to school failed you.

Reek can’t help himself; he’s broken.

A grown man, he admitted he let random LSU posters he’s never met on this board break him… simply because they love LSU and he couldn’t take it.

What you see is the resulting brokenness.
