Let’s say you have 30% allocation to large cap core equity. 10% could be a position in IVV and 20% could be a “sleeve” which holds individual stocks. That sleeve would more than likely be a SMA managed by a third party (unless your advisor has their own proprietary strategy). That managed sleeve will usually come with a fee but it is actively managed and you actually own the shares of stock.

That reciprocality is limited as they can only go to Southern x amount of times per year (I believe it’s single digits) from my understanding. Can’t get out of paying that easy
