Veteran Louisiana business journalist JR Ball, who publishes the Red Eye newsletter (redeyebr.com), said Monday on Talk Louisiana with Tiger Rag president Jim Engster that LSU has already “closed” on what he described as a venture-capital investment fund
quote:
According to Ball, the arrangement would provide LSU with more than $100 million in upfront capital in exchange for 10 percent of future media-rights revenue.
“LSU has closed a deal for 10 percent of LSU’s media rights – primarily tied to football – that will generate in excess of $100 million,” Ball said.

The reported private equity structure stands in sharp contrast to concerns Ausberry expressed during the exclusive February interview with Tiger Rag.
With LSU projecting its $25-to-$35 million deficit, Ausberry acknowledged that private equity had become part of the national conversation at the time.
“People talk about private equity firms,” Ausberry said last February. “And you really don’t want to go that way, but you’ve got to put everything on the table.”

For LSU's sake I do truly hope this isn't true. PE ruins everything it touches.

If PE takes over college sports just burn it all down.

You’re just sad the “LSU is broke” tired line can’t be used anymore. It was false before and if this is true, it’s definitely still false.

$100,000,000 now to give up 10% of future media rights money forever? That sounds like a pretty crappy deal for LSU, honestly.

They would be dumber than a clear plastic sack of hammered dog shite to give up 10% into perpetuity

I am sure we will have tons of lawyers chime in, but what is the legality of essentially selling part of a public entity - LSU - to a private entity - private equity? I know there are ways to sell public assets to private buyers. But I always figured that it would involve more than a meeting with the governor and some university officials.

I’m going to trust the few reliable guys on the boards that have said it’s absolutely not private equity. They said it’s a new concept so probably nothing a local hack would fully understand what LSU is trying to do.

I think it involves private equity, my only guess on the hints being dropped prior to meeting 1
Is that the PE may put together by LSUs top 40 donors

Virginia Tech announced something similar like 6 months ago. Not sure how it works day to day though

More private credit than private equity.

I guess that’s my point. It’s not the same conventional aspects of private equity. Jackie seemed to hint at it being much more heavily focused on NIL.

Does the PE group have holdings in any children’s hospitals?
Better check.

Asset securitization is not a new concept.
You can call it whatever fancy name you want, especially if you're talking to LSU fans. But you are taking a lump sum upfront payment in exchange for giving up a future cash flow stream. And it appears to be in perpetuity.
Sounds like a great deal for the investors. Probably something LSU will regret.

First off, you don’t have to be a total ****. No one is accusing Ole Miss alums of being the brain trust anyway.
I’m just saying the guy with legitimate intel has done well for himself and certainly understands the downside of PE, yet he’s not concerned at all and is elated about the concept.

Well. You sort of started it

It can't possibly be in perpetuity. Even LSU isn't that stupid.

I guarantee you the celebrations for the guys who papered the deal were longer and louder than LSU's. When those Jewish boys put a tire over some schmuck from the bayou, they laugh till the champagne comes out their big ole nose
