They've hated him for the last decade when he wasn't even the coach.

Agree, even tho from what people think is going on, its more than football driving this.

I for one don't believe a word of this at all. Even with the pressure he has endured since his first season, I just don't see him leaving what he built in AU, then having to try and replicate it at Arkansas, which could take years..

Maybe Im just being naïve, but yes Arkansas is home to him, but I don't see him making this move for that sake or a anything else

I think there are still lots of folks in Arky that don't like Gus. If he got off to a rocky start, things could get squirrelly over there.

Why would any school want a guy to take a step down to work there? If Les Snead suddenly left the Rams to “come home” as the AD, I would have serious concerns about his mental state. Same goes for Gus to Arky. As frustrated as the fan base has been with him at times, that move makes zero sense.

It's this constant "coaches think like us mentality."

Coaches are hypercompetitive psychopaths. Otherwise coaches at big schools where they aren't doing too well would leave for slightly smaller schools to extend their coaching viability all the time. They don't. Otherwise you'd see guys saying yes to mama all the time - they don't.

I can't say whether any of the stuff about Gus wanting to go back to Ark is true or not, but I tend to think any rumors about that being some huge motivating desire are false, because they almost always are.

These dudes want to achieve the pinnacle of success. When they get it, they want to do it more, and again, and again.

Right, because Arkansas never had any form of football success anywhere or at anytime. Never mind those 42 Bowl appearances, including 13 Cotton, 6 Sugar, 2 Orange, and Fiesta Bowls. Never mind 13 conference titles. Never mind National titles( two if you count like Bama does). Never mind 3 SEC title game appearances ( que the queers for the ‘02 one).
Never mind Bobby Petrino winning 29 games in three seasons and finishing top 5 ranked @ 11-2 his last year on sideline. Yeah, there’s never been any football success at Arkansas ever.
Btw, how many times has UK even had the opportunity to play for an SEC title since the 1992 expansion?

Malzahn leveraged his reputation and that specific recruiting class to make the jump from high school to D1.

You're a kinder gentler soul than I am- I refer to that as using them like $2 whores.

Still, I have to respect what he did.

I respect nothing about him. His win/loss record etc mean nothing to me.

If Gus does go I wouldn’t be shocked if Arkansas started those Big 12 rumors up again. It’d be the perfect storm for him to get away from AU and CNS.

Would be a terrible move. Assuming Gus finishes this season strong:

Beats Bama, wins SEC title, loses in first round of playoff

If he goes to Arky after that, the way I see it, Arky will be wanting that type of success at Arky, which isnt really feasible.

Yep Auburn is about to get anally raped on an extension and new buyout clause for Gus. I wonder if they can resist it....LSU never could with Miles.

If Auburn had lost to Georgia, I could understand the rumor having legs. But, Gus has still has a chance to get to Atlanta and ultimately the playoffs. Heck, if he beats Bama, Auburn will give him a big raise.

And I wonder if that's not really what has led us to this point. Had Auburn won 8-9 games, him taking the Arky job would have made tons of sense. And if he lays an egg against Alabama or something, it suddenly may seem more reasonable.

I'm sure enthusiasm has picked up for Arky fans since the UGA beatdown, but that probably also makes it less feasible that they get him to leave and puts him in better standing with Auburn.

Auburn football is obviously better than Missouri basketball, but Mike Anderson left Mizzou not long after going to the Elite 8 for an Arkansas program in shambles. Why? Because he had an emotional connection to the place.

Most people who post here are die hard fans of their school. If any of us non-Alabama fans were coaching at Alabama, would we not leave if our favorite team offered us the job even if it's not the same caliber?

Well I can't stand him, it's just how it is. The good news is if he leaves y'all then I won't have nary a bad thing to say about Auburn (which to be honest I haven't really said much about y'all in quite a while).

I'll just have plenty of Saturday's in the fall to do as I please and wait on the inevitable.

The fan base will most likely be permanently split no matter what. The pro-Gus crowd will make excuses if he doesn't do well and the anti-Gus crow will make excuses if he does well.
