The fanbase and coaching staff has been in an all out hate gus campaign for the last 5 years, so I understand

I think they throw one offer at him then move on, just because of the what has transpired in the past and his association with arky and portion of fanbase

Sexton may have misplayed this because AU fans really don't care if he leaves.

Most are fine with him staying as long as he doesn't get a new contract or more money but nobody cares if he leaves.

I really think that he has some kind of psychological issues and can't handle the pressure of the job so it would probably be best for him and his family to step back and go somewhere that will be happy winning 8 games and going to a bad bowl game..

This isn’t the PAC 12. Top 20 classes suck in the SEC West.

If I were Ark I would go after Leach over Malzahn.

I've been calling Gus to Ar-Kansas since last season. It's a no brainer!

I upvoted you but my dislike started way before I even really knew who Bert was.

I didn’t like the way anything went down with his original hire. The book he let his high school team participate in which led to shitty comments from players like Mustain and started friction from day 1. It was absolutely insane that anyone thought he and goofball Nutt would work together. Unless he has an iq of 35, he knew that when he accepted the job. But then people shed tears and acted like he was Jesus being crucified when things went south.

I’ve lived thru the Petrino fiasco and the Bert years of suckdom since he was here and I still consider the end of HDN years which Gus was a part of as the worst times for being a hog fan.

Auburn fans don't appreciate Gus and Gus knows it. With the shake up in the athletic department at Auburn it's a smart time for Gus to make a move

Dude, arkansas offered les the job. There were numbers involved, it wasn't just a random report, damn near every sports network knew about it. It wasn't a made up deal, it really happened. Why the hell do you think LSU gave him an extension, raise, and a bigger buyout shortly thereafter? You think they did that over some dumbass rumors? Come on now,

I think there was interest and CLM and his agent used it for leverage with LSU...I seriously doubt Arkansas was talking numbers or even seriously considering hiring Miles. It was all done to get an extension from LSU IMO

This is actually more of a reason he'd stay. IMO the AD has worked against Gus for some time. It was JJ's way. Excited to type that in the past tense.

Gus may leave a returning All-conference QB, with a strong returning D and D staff and most of the record setting O pieces coming back...he may...but he'll be the 1st coach in history to do it.

It is also my opinion that if he leaves Auburn might take an immediate hit, but we'd be better off. A guy wiling to leave what we have for arkie isn't cut to compete at this level over time. To be clear I don't believe Gus would leave though.

I'll shite on Auburn out of tradition

but you'd have to be one dumb motherfricker to go from the Auburn job, where you're going to compete for an SEC title at least once every 4 years, to the Arkansas job of perpetually failing to meet expectations

Malzahn leveraged his reputation and that specific recruiting class to make the jump from high school to D1. How many years did it take him to go from high school head coach to coaching in the national championship game? How many coaches have done that? It's clear he made some mistakes and pissed off more than a few folks, as evidenced by your post. Still, I have to respect what he did.

Well Gus did give JF3 a scholarship and run the ball 17 straight first downs vs LSU and blow a 20 point lead. After we hit some big pass plays on early downs in the first half. I dont know if you can apply logic to Gus.

IMO Chip called, but even if Gus called the plays 10 times he gave his QB a RPO and 10 times that QB elected to give the ball to KJ despite him being stuffed on each prior play.

I dont buy that, Stidham was asked the day after the game about his ability to change a play and he said best ask the coaches. We really did not start using the RPO much til the ATM game. I would bet Lindsey and Gus scripted the first drive and kept the hammer down til we got ahead then Gus told Chip to shut it down.

Why would any school want a guy to take a step down to work there? If Les Snead suddenly left the Rams to “come home” as the AD, I would have serious concerns about his mental state. Same goes for Gus to Arky. As frustrated as the fan base has been with him at times, that move makes zero sense.

Home is home. If he goes to Arkansas he knows the fans will love him even after a loss. Auburn fans want to run him off after every loss.

We used RPO's against LSU, but JS didn't execute them. Man, we really believe these coaches do more than they really do. Players must play...for all the Gus learned from LSU threads. Watching the games it is JS who learned the most.

FIFY

Auburn fans don't want upheaval. Early on, in the afterglow of 2010 and then 2013, Gus was somewhat beloved by AU people.

But I don't encounter many AU people who seemingly have a personal fondness for Gus. I don't even know who his kids are. Kristi is kinda weird and has gone silent as a result. I'm not insulting him, I just don't know how tied people are to Gus in the way they were to Tubs

The state will be pretty split if he is hired...it's not exactly going to be sunshine and rainbows for him if he doesn't succeed.
