Earlier this week Arkansas canned AD Jeff Long. Multiple sources tell SI that in the wake of a dismal season for fifth-year coach Bret Bielema things have really gotten messy with Razorbacks' brass. Big-money boosters at Arkansas and members of the university's board of trustees have been pushing for the Razorbacks to go after Auburn coach Gus Malzahn to be their next head coach. Malzahn, an Arkansas native, high school coach and former Razorbacks assistant under Houston Nutt, has rallied the Tigers this season and is coming off a big win over No. 1 Georgia in Week 11.
According to sources, Long got caught up in the undertow and in a power play between some of the Razorbacks strongest backers. He hired Bielema after a very successful turn at Wisconsin, but the former Badgers boss is just 29-32 in five seasons and 11-27 in league play. The Hogs are 4-6 this fall with a 1-5 mark in SEC play.

He's not going to make a move that's at best lateral and more like a step down.

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective.

Ol'Gust via Jim Sexton will use that info for a dandy iron clad buyout, extension and raise at Auburn. As he should. Arkansas will just have to survive without St Gust.

Music to Sexton's ears. That guy is a shithead that's great at his job.

Word is Gus wants to be back in arkansas. He didn't even care if it was the arkansas job, just being back in arkansas. He is sick of living game to game wondering if he will be fired if he loses.
I've pretty much become at peace with the fact I have no control over this and we will be doing the whirlybird soon

90% of Arkansas fans will tell you they don't want Gus Malzahn as their Head Coach.
Also..
90% of Arkansas fans would be absolutely ecstatic if Gus Malzahn became their Head Coach.

quote:The only people that don't want him are the people caught up in the political bullshite in NWA. Anyone that doesn't have a personal grudge against him for his past here is fine with the hire and will willingly admit it. The last time he was on staff at Arkansas they were in the SEC Championship game.

Kristi is who wants to be back in Arkansas due to aging family members.
Gus isn’t living game to game. Yes, the contingent of AU fans who wanted Gus gone grew after another frustrating loss to Clemson and the LSU game. However, most of those fans have quieted down since the A&M game and especially UGA. We may very well lose to Bama, but as long as he doesn’t go back to 17 runs on first down a la LSU, most fans will give him a chance.
Plus, Jacobs being canned changes everything. There’ve been rumors that there was bad blood beteeen Jacobs and Malzahn for several years.

I wouldn't say anything is really messy.

I mean, this isn't breaking news really. AU fans knew it was going to happen at some point if Bert didn't get his shite in line.

SI needs new sources. There is a plethora of things that Long was let go for. Going all the way back to his support of the womens basketball team kneeling for the national anthem a season ago. That is when all this actually started. Prior to that, his approval was at 90% among the BOT.
He was fired just a couple of days ago for issues that have come up with the stadium expansion and sneaking money around. He did not cover his paper trail very well and thought he was smarter than everyone around him. Him being fired for convenience was to keep too many media members snooping around.

I recently took a paycut with a promotion so that I could move back home. It happens when people are homesick.

LOL. Arkansas is fricking retarded. Malzahn would be the dumbest motherfricker alive to even consider leaving auburn to go coach at arkansas. That is not going to happen. He will end up getting a raise and an extension at auburn out of this though. Just like when arkansas tried to hire Les Miles from LSU. Who the hell wants to coach at arkansas? You are at a severe disadvantage in recruiting in the sec west. I guess I dont blame arky for trying, but, even with malzahn being from arkansas and having deep ties to the state and school, he has to realize that it would be a substantial step down from auburn. JMHO.

Man, are you serious? Were you living under a rock or something? It was common knowledge that arky tried to lure miles away from LSU. Just Google the shite, I posted a link for you though.
Les Miles has even said he was never coming to Arkansas and wasn't offered the job.
He just said it as recently as the other day.

yes, I remember. Anybody can claim they have a source/report.

Dude, arkansas offered les the job. There were numbers involved, it wasn't just a random report, damn near every sports network knew about it. It wasn't a made up deal, it really happened. Why the hell do you think LSU gave him an extension, raise, and a bigger buyout shortly thereafter? You think they did that over some dumbass rumors? Come on now,

Don't get all butthurt bc Les didn't want to go coach at your shitty program. He used yall for a raise and you ended up with fat bert lol. There was an offer mare by arky and Les just used them for leverage with LSU. He wasn't taking it seriously, even though arky was dead serious. Like Les would leave frickin LSU to go coach the piggies...hahahaha.
