Really not off topic because it would affect us. From Football Scoop:

“Like it or not, the College Football Playoff is expected to expand to 24 teams beginning with the 2027 season.

“Once that happens, Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt expects the SEC and Big Ten to strike a non-conference scheduling agreement, to be announced soon after CFP expansion becomes official.

"’There are scheduling agreements that are in place once this thing expands officially,’" Klatt told KTCK-FM 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas on Wednesday. “‘The next thing that will happen almost immediately is we're going to get scheduling agreements between the SEC and the Big Ten -- top-end matchups, mid-tier matchups, low-end matchups -- and we're going to be expanding the valuable matchups in the non-conference, far surpassing what we have now.’"

So we are going to be playing 9 conference games and a Big 10 opponent or two?

If so, every single AD in the conference should line up and forcibly remove Sankey from office. Bad enough we'll be getting our dicks smashed with a 9 game conference schedule...

Yeah. I do not like this AT ALL, but Klass is usually a pretty solid reporter.

So help me God, if this comes about and people here still obsess about 16-0 being our standard I’m going to levitate.

I mean, I want to go 16-0. But how could that be the realistic standard against a 9-game conference schedule and regular out of conference games with the damn Big 10?

This sport has lost its mind.

I hate to be crude but Petitti is doing to Sankey what Billy McKinney did to Ned Beatty in Deliverance. You can almost hear the pig squeals at the Birmingham City Limits.

The days of us or anyone going undefeated are long gone. I can accept losing. It’s the losses like last week where it doesn’t even resemble American football at times that kill me

This plus a jillion.

I said a while back that if we go out and compete hard and the other team is just better than us that day, OK. Last week was a s**t show.

My point was about the people who crow “We’re Alabama” and think there’s another Saban out there to be had if we just look hard enough who’ll give us what we’re entitled to.

I absolutely want excellence but damn it, we were Alabama and Saban was Saban in a completely different world that no longer exists and will never exist again.

The subject of this thread should show you how far through the looking glass we are.

I think this is a fitting passage from Robert Paynes book Rome Triumphant: How the empire celebrated its victories. And i think it rings true to where college football is headed and what will happen to elite programs in the future.

For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honour of a triumph. For a whole day, sometimes for many days, the Roman people were presented with a vast and tumultuous parade celebrating the glory of the returning general. In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, and the dazed prisoners walked in front of him. In imperial times the conqueror was crowned with a laurel wreath and wore a purple tunic embroidered with palms under a purple toga embroidered with stars. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot, or rode the trace-horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown over his head, and whispering in his ear a warning that all glory is fleeting.

They didn’t have to run a 9-game SEC gauntlet

This would just be the next step in eventually splitting the Big 10/SEC off and creating an NFC/AFC type super conference.

Sankey is officially a plant. If the universities weren't filled with a bunch of 'yes' men, best thing they could do is break the SEC away and just start doing their own thing.

I'm so sick of the 9 game schedule complaints. As a season ticket holder, I welcome good games. I'm glad the era of 3 cupcakes is dead.

He reports to the 16 schools' presidents. You know that right. Everything he does with these kinds of calls are made with them being in agreement. You think he pulls the trigger out of his arse crack? You are not the smartest k nife in this draw my friend.

I think I’ve said before that the SEC has ~55% of its members in the all-time top 25 winning percentage while the Big Ten has only ~33% of its members in that list.

I don’t think going to 9 benefited the SEC but it was conceptually more equitable I suppose. However, signing up to play the other major conference yearly is fully moronic.

well, if we're going full nfl move. then all power 4 conferences plays a 8 game conference schedule. plus, all 4 ooc games must be from the other conferences, no repeat conferences. no independents. everybody is in a conference or they get left out, no exceptions. also, nobody gets to play all 4 bottom feeders from the other conferences.

do away with the committee! go back to the bcs rankings with no hidden computations. anyone wanting to participate in the rankings has to have complete transparency.

They played two ranked teams in the regular season, #9 Illinois (lol) and #3 Oregon. Bama played five total, including four in a row.

The problem I have is they want to have “high matchups” contrived for ratings.

So great. Our Georgia plays their Ohio State. Win or lose, Ohio State has less risk of getting themselves on the playoff fringe than Georgia. After that game: Georgia has a better than coin flip chance of playing one of the top 25 programs in cfb history; Ohio State has a 1 in 3 chance of the same.

I would recommend that the SEC make a partnership with the ACC. They have a few compelling programs but the quality of opponents will be lower overall. The SEC doesn’t need to play the Big Ten until the postseason. We don’t need them putting our playoff-caliber teams on the fringe because they want to make sure their best plays our best every year.

This makes it easier for existing rivalries between the conferences to survive.

Agreed. SEC x ACC, B10 x B12

Another aspect is that I think the SEC x ACC relationship will help improve their home game broadcast rights for OOC games when the ACC reaches broadcast rights renegotiate. This may help save their conference and avoid another round of realignment where we’re forced to take on more power just to keep the Big Ten out of our footprint.
