Not sure you will see a lot of UGA players hitting the portal this week. We still have something to play for.

good call. I didn't take into account LSU at the SECCG and Georgia still playing.

Great work on this list. Can you keep up with all the comings and goings? In basketball, the Verbal Commits site has a portal section updating by the minute, but I do not know of one like that in football. So thanks!

Even if lsu didn't win the championship I think getting there is a positive.

I'm shocked at the Bama players that the Tide missed on in recruiting

Can a patient person explain this to me? I know players used to transfer and then typically iirc have to sit out a year.
So the portal came into play with Covid? You just say “I want out”, enter the portal and wait for someone to take you? This just makes it seem more like pros and idk if I care much for it, especially combined with NIL. (S don’t know how that hasn’t caused issues between player getting paid more/less/not at all.
(Be kind … female fan here; this is not the OT. Just trying to understand the ins and outs.)

It used to be a player had to have a landing spot the coach approved of. So you could forget about intra conference transfers. And a player had to sit out a year. It kept the high profile transfers to a minimum. The courts called no joy on that system as it being unfair to the athlete. The th NIL money came into llay
You are correct that now the player has the choice to peace out whenever and wherever a place will have him- without having to sit out a year and lose its eligibility.
It is very close to freee agency. The big poison pill no one is really focusing in on is let’s say a player enters the portal for a better deal/situation and doesn’t get it. The parent school is under no obligation to either take them back or extend the scholarship. That can be a potentially life changing event.

Thanks .. I think it sucks. My last child on college actually wrote a paper on NIL .. I need to ask her for a copy to read it. Not sure how she ended up with that as a topic ..it was a higher education class so I guess just that it was student athlete based.

Looking like Graham Mertz is Kentucky bound. Don’t know too much about him but he’d be a solid QB, especially if Coen is the OC. Gotta think Wisconsin’s play-style isn’t exactly QB friendly so hoping we’d get more out of him

This is why I don't even bother to learn names anymore. So, are most of this at the suggestion of the coaches to free up spots for incoming portal transfers, lack of play time or what?

How does On3 come up with the NIL figures? Just a guess?

Last year if I remember correctly both UGA and Bama had very few if any in the portal until the playoff was finished and both teams ended up with 10-14 in the portal before it was all said and done.
Yep. Most of them entered after the spring game when they saw how far back they were on the depth chart.

A guess. Maybe they rank players and then assign a value to each slot.

On3 has a breakdown on their website on how they calculate it. It is free so I am not putting inside info here. There is a lot of detail but the three categories are:
Performance: Performance is determined by how the athlete performs on the field. Big games against key opponents, becoming nationally ranked and winning national awards will have the most impact on an athlete’s valuation. Participation in college sports is weighted heavier in most cases than those that participate at the high school level.
Influence: Influence is determined by the athlete’s own social media authority. Social media followers, reach and engagement are the primary factors that determine influence.
Exposure: Exposure is determined by several factors including whether the athlete is in high school or college, which school the athlete attends and position. Athletes that attend universities with a larger fan base and media attention are likely to see a positive impact on valuation. Athletes who play a position with higher visibility (ie. quarterback vs. center) are likely to see a higher valuation.

Georgia really really needs an edge rusher. Who are the top portal guys? I saw where there was one from Harvard who's supposed to be pretty good.

The players requesting the amount themselves?

How is "NIL Value" calculated?

Josh Pate said that only 58% of the players entering the portal end up on a roster the next year. So, 42% either start paying for their own education or leave school altogether.
