if you consider Mercedes-Benz, BMW & Volvo to be the equivalent of Detroit's big 3 American auto Mfrs then you probably do 'see this'.

South Carolina and Alabama are in the bottom 10 of poorest states. They have ports.
It's not rocket science.
Mississippi also has auto manufacturing plants.

quote:...and the man most instrumental in the area's growth over the last 25-30 years is Richard Shelby. The Mobile area (southern coastal) of Alabama is getting ready to explode when, through his efforts, Mobile Bay is dredged and widened to make it one of the top five ports in the country. He's been a real blessing for the state.
A lot of people don't realize Huntsville has the 2nd largest Research Park in the country behind the Research Triangle in North Carolina.
Fortune 500 companies stacked on top of each other and more coming. The Redstone Arsenal is where US Missile Defense Command is.
THE US Missile Defense Command. Fun fact, of the US cities who the Soviet Union gave a "Red Star Designation" to during the Cold War: Washington, DC, New York, NORAD and Huntsville, AL.
It's where the FBI's HQ2 (2nd Headquarters...the other being Washington,DC) is about to be built.
Then there's the Marshall Space Flight Center based there. No rocket launch in NASA history happened without Huntsville.
Also United Launch Alliance, chief rival to SpaceX, manufacturing is based there.
And it's rumored to be the leader to land the base of the new Space Force.
Basically everyone is a rocket scientist or engineer. But seriously, Hunstville has more engineers per capita than anywhere in the world.
Then you have Google and Facebook about to open a huge presence.
All of that to say, the state of Alabama released numbers that said Huntsville is going to surpass Birmingham as the largest city in Alabama in 5 years.

Florida isn't that far ahead so let's not make that comment like your state is at the top.

Huntsville is a giant shithole, basically the Detroit of the South. It used to be nice but since the Space Race ended everyone with money left. I've been to areas in Atlanta near Turner Field that are like Manhattan compared to Huntsville. Weekly tornadoes, my Godparent's son's elementary school was leveled by one. Take the worst parts of Memphis (Orange Mound, Blackhaven) and cross it with southeast DC and you have the nice parts of Huntsville. The crime cannot even be compared to Shitcago; its more like Ciudad Juarez or Pech River Valley in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The humidity is only rivaled by Central American rain forests, the mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds, trash lines the streets - I saw cleaner neighborhoods in south Baghdad in 2005, and the rolling blackouts are only relieved by brownouts.
The Parkway and I-565 make I-495 Rush Hour traffic around DC look like the Daytona 500. Speaking of NASCAR, good luck finding anything open on Sunday - when the state shuts down to watch the race. When you move there they force you to convert to Southern Baptist. We were driving thru New Hope, AL and I got a ticket because my wife was in the passenger seat and not in the back seat like the Southern Baptist Convention dictates.
Water Moccasins everywhere. You could walk across the Tennessee River on the Water Moccasins if they didn't consume you whole while attempting to. The only schools rated worse in the US than Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County School Districts are on the Indian Reservations in AZ and in Sunflower and Issaquena Counties in Mississippi.
I don't understand why there isn't a sewage system for a city that big, and all the shallow dug septic tasks give the city an awful stench. And the faucet water tastes like byproduct from an old paper mill converted into a dog food factory.
I almost forgot to add that the mayor and city council make Bill de Blasio look like the second coming of Reagan, the only cable channel available is MSNBC, and the "gifted" high school accesses the internet via a dial up connection courtesy of an AOL CD found during clean up of the Great Tornado of '98

I have absolutely zero clue what you are talking about. None of those specifics make any sense whatsoever.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I live here and it's a great place to live.

MS has and always will be toward the bottom of most categories regardless of who is governor. It isn’t the policies but rather the vast amount of poor blacks and white trash in this state that just don’t care

Except for Florida and Louisiana, there is something of a correlation between the state's Southernness and unemployment rate.

Considering 30% of Florida's population makes $0 because they're retired, this skews the "median" income quite a bit.
