I would say the strong auto industry is what's helping SC and Alabama, but Mississippi also has auto industry presence

This, and a bunch of other things. Mostly all comes down to that the political class doesn't actually give a shite about anyone else in the state.

It's why we still have the stupid-arse flag. Like who fricking cares? It hurts the state so just change it. But that loser phil bryant wouldn't actually do anything to make the state better (except lift the beer ABV requirement - that was nice), and now we apparently have a goober named "tater tot" running the state? God help Mississippi. It needs it.

Tater Tot takes vacations to Spain during a national emergency and poses with people who have intercourse with that flag.

We literally just voted down wine from being sold in the grocery store. Cause apparently Jesus hates wine(oh the irony)

We're so fricked

Per the December 2019 census bureau data SC was 6th in % change. Alabama was not in the Top 10 in 2018 to 2019 change.

Texas was #1 in total net migration and Georgia was #6. Alabama and South Carolina were not in the top 10 in 2018 to 2019 change.

A lot of people don't realize Huntsville has the 2nd largest Research Park in the country behind the Research Triangle in North Carolina.
Fortune 500 companies stacked on top of each other and more coming. The Redstone Arsenal is where US Missile Defense Command is.
THE US Missile Defense Command. Fun fact, of the US cities who the Soviet Union gave a "Red Star Designation" to during the Cold War: Washington, DC, New York, NORAD and Huntsville, AL.

It's where the FBI's HQ2 (2nd Headquarters...the other being Washington,DC) is about to be built.

Then there's the Marshall Space Flight Center based there. No rocket launch in NASA history happened without Huntsville.
Also United Launch Alliance, chief rival to SpaceX, manufacturing is based there.

And it's rumored to be the leader to land the base of the new Space Force.

Basically everyone is a rocket scientist or engineer. But seriously, Hunstville has more engineers per capita than anywhere in the world.

Then you have Google and Facebook about to open a huge presence.

All of that to say, the state of Alabama released numbers that said Huntsville is going to surpass Birmingham as the largest city in Alabama in 5 years.

This makes me sad. I like Huntsville and Google and Facebook will ruin it.
Soulless companies.

The Flag is a drag on our economy.

I have advocated returning to the Magnolia Flag. It actually predates the current flag, is not controversial, takes the history/heritage argument out of the equation and would put this issue behind us.

The Magnolia Tree is about benign as it gets.

So South Carolina and Alabama = Detroit?

I can actually see this.

if you consider Mercedes-Benz, BMW & Volvo to be the equivalent of Detroit's big 3 American auto Mfrs then you probably do 'see this'.

SC also has Boeing, but no Magic Kingdom, unfortunately.

SC is the place to be right now. We're booming and still staying as true to our culture as humanly possible.

It was smart of those companies to put their assembly plants in poor states that have a port. You can pay a worker $20/hr or less for manual labor and that worker won't flinch. That goes a long way in Alabama and South Carolina.
