The ref near the ball literally stared at it then waved his arms as the players were diving on it.

At the least, it should have been ruled a backwards pass....with no runoff of the clock.
I also think the ball should have been spotted where it came to rest further back.

Big win for you guys. Congrats.

Arky tears and even more Gus excuses incoming.

Basically, it was a fumble, and the ref fricked up by blowing the whistle, and the Arkansas guy who dove on it blew it by not immediately corralling it.

Ya'll got hosed that's true. The refs absolutely did screw Arky by blowing the whistle prematurely. But since the whistle had blown, it is technically the correct call. ,
Yep. This is all that matters. The refs blew the whistle because he illegally spiked the ball, thus causing the penalty. In the moment, they clearly didn’t properly realize or it just didn’t hit them that he may have actually spiked it backwards, which should have caused them to swallow the whistle.
It sucks, but the whistle was blown well before a clear recovery was made. Replay was correctly ruled based on the series of events. It’s unfortunate for both fan bases.

Should be fired. I believe the head ref was the only one who blew the play dead.

Agree with above.
Immediate - occurring, acting, or accomplished without loss or interval of time.
3 secs is an interval of time. Sry Arkansas good game.

Its impossible to know if he still would have recovered without the whistles.
You would have been 7 yrds further back in a hectic situation, no timeouts, and a running clock

How the head ref could not clearly see he turned around and threw the ball behind himself is unbelievable.
He threw the ball behind himself...
He threw the ball behind himself...

You are going to your grave defending the SEC statement uh?

And the SEC office will never acknowledge that their ref made a bad mistake, that ultimately decided the outcome of the game.

I didn't realize until the first replay, because it was so weird. I have never seen a spike after a fumbled snap, and I've been an AU fan for 33 years.

Because the statement is fact. The original call was bad, but that's just the way the ball bounced. We get ours too.
