Cole Hutson declared, went undrafted, attended rookie mini camps, but never signed with a team.

He's back at Texas and allowed to play next year.

I am all for giving LSU grief, but the SEC allowed this to happen with their current language. Maybe it gets updated, but a player can go through the draft process, go undrafted, attend rookie mini camps, but as long as they don't sign, they can return?

Weird. Just make it simple like it used to be. If they go through the draft process and don't withdraw, they're not eligible. Easy.

You see it's just different when it comes to LSU

Yes, it’s a cluster frick whether this player can or can’t.

The rule, as passed, says a player is ineligible if the declared for the draft and did not appropriately withdraw.

I'm assuming he never withdrew from the draft, so he would be ineligible.

They won't be able to in the future, one time thing.

Not according to this article:

They read the first part of the rule as having to be combined with 2 or 3...

The article argues Cole never actually declared for the NFL draft, just that since he was a senior it was automatic?

That's wackadoodle.

He was eligible to be drafted, period. And to y'alls points, he can't enter the draft again, so how would this work?

He also never declared for the draft though.

One took a player that never signed an NFL contract, was still enrolled at the school and never declared. The other actively tried to get players under NFL contracts to come back and encouraged them to sue for eligibility.

That’s a pretty large difference.

Texas has already upgraded his spot and he would not start unless there is an injury. Most TX fans view him as a depth piece but would also be just fine with him being ineligible.

Facts don't matter to these people.

It's basically a one time loophole, and I'd imagine those who fit the criteria will be eligible.

LSU signed a kid from Notre Dame earlier this week that fits the bill.

I guess sucking at nfl mini camp and not getting a deal or having a cold a couple years ago were the loophole ways to get a bonus year this time around.

The end result of the ruling is whatever. I don’t really care either way.

However, I do feel bad for those guys. If they knew they could have stayed in college another year, they wouldn’t have declared for the draft or signed a contract.

So in a sense, I feel like they are getting punished for going forward with the only option they had at the time. But at the same time, you have to draw the line between college and pro somewhere

Ok then he and the ND DE that LSU signed both might be eligible then.

Neither did two of the Ole Miss players. They were out of eligibility, went through the draft process, went undrafted, etc. They just happened to be just good enough to get offered contracts, whereas Hutson didn’t yet still pursued the NFL via attending two mini camps. Seems pretty dumb of the SEC were to draw that distinction between the two situations. It’s clear all the players pursued the NFL, two just happened to be marginally more successful in their endeavors

This whole thing is fricking dumb. The NCAA could have avoided all of this by either doing it before the draft or waiting until after this season. Doing it in June was retarded and opened the door for nonsense and lawsuits.
